Nymphomaniac Movie Whipping Scenes

Has anyone seen the whipping scenes from the two-volume movie Nymphomaniac? They are available on Netflix. Although there are some very disturbing non-S&M elements in the movie, the whipping scenes are very good in my opinion if your tastes run to the more extreme. Interestingly--and I can imagine this occurring--several shots show a few women sitting waiting to be called in for consensual thrashings and the movie displays the preparation and thrashings of one of the women. Please accept my apologies if this topic has been covered already.

Wouldn't Charlotte Gainsbourg be perfectly described by the wonderful French term 'une jolie laide'?

Yes, Phil. We all aren't cover girls. I know I'm not. Beauty is more than skin deep and although she doesn't have classical beauty, her face exudes depth. And the whipping scenes (severe) are breathtaking. I think that an actress such as Gainsbourg is better suited to the role than someone with the appearance of a covergirl. Her character seeks out punishment for perhaps some of the same fundamental reason that many of us do. The movie--all 4 hours of it--painstakingly takes us through her life, trying to give us a glimpse into what brought her to that juncture. The movie is disturbing but erotic as can be and I'm glad I watched it all.

Are the whipping scenes "real" in the sense that a female actress volunteered for the body double parts and was whipped (but not with the actual flogger seen in the clips) until she bled? Some of the reviews seem to suggest this.

I had never heard that term!

Mobile-carrot, that's the impression I received when I read some of the reviews the day after viewing the film. There was a body double--a porn actress apparently into being punished--and she was thrashed but not with the implements displayed. When I saw the film, I thought there was an overgrowth of pubic hair, especially when viewed from the rear and her legs were spread. That was explained in the review as a consequence of the fact that the porn actress was totally shaved "down there" and they decided to add artificial hair and overdid it.

Ah, thank you Cindy. Yes I did notice that huge thatch but the more I say about it the bigger hole I'll dig for myself. Metaphorically speaking of course.

There is such a thing as going too far, at least for me. Lacerations aren't really my thing.

Not my thing either although in play I have had small cuts.
