Only as a movie this time:

The sailplane scene might be worth watching, but I don't know about the rest.

I haven't read beyond the first book, but I think it might be interesting to see how they do it. I don't want to invest the cost of a movie ticket, though, so I guess I'll have to wait for it to come to Netflix or Redbox.

Haha, that book was such drivel-I'll at least watch it at some point and throw candy at the screen.

I read the book and was not impressed. I doubt very much that I will watch the movie. I think there have been so many stories that are here in the Library that are much more exciting and would make great movies. I wasted my money on the paperback.

I've said this before and I stand by it: 50 shades has been a very positive thing for people like us. The book itself may suck. The characterizations may not fit with how we actually live....but it has opened so many doors to conversations that people like us would never been as comfortable to have before. I am glad that book and movie came out. Rosa's daughter just asked to but it to share it with a girlfriend of hers. Of course we got it for her.......and teased her the entire time about embarrassing us by wanting something so perverted. LOL

I fully expect the film to be every bit as bad as the books so will be giving it the widest possible berth.

I'm curious to see if they dial down the stupidity in the movie, or actually stay loyal to the book. I'm sort of hoping for the latter, as that would produce an amusing backlash.

I've started reading the book - I was ready to quit on page 2, but with some encouragement I've finished the first chapter. My thoughts thus far: (1) those of us with a more dominant view get to experience the masochistic side of things by subjecting ourselves to the quality of the writing, and (2) it would be almost impossible for the movie NOT to be better than the book.
I checked out "Secretary" (and even own it) because it's one of the few borderline mainstream movies that tries to portray what we do - but ultimately I was disappointed with it. I'm guessing I'll do the same with "50 Shades."

I think one problem with 50 Shades and Secretary is that they equate BDSM with mental illness, a sort of "this isn't what normal people do-let's look". I've seen it happen in Sex and the City too. I guess it's just narrow-mindedness.
