I agree, yet nothing is done.

I am also concerned with the similarities in our modern world.

I've mentioned that at work and I got yelled at. So much for freedom of speech now.

I don't really understand how you would get yelled at for mentioning an anniversary. What happened?

Whenever someone tells me "well X originally means Y so..." I think about the swastika - which is still used by the Jain religion. Most people only know of the Jain from the lyrics of Universal Soldier, a song written by Buffy Sainte-Marie, first released by The Highwaymen, cover by Buffy Sainte-Marie, Donovan (who had a huge hit), and Glen Campbell) with the line: "He's a Catholic, a Hindu, an Atheist, a Jain / A Buddhist and a Baptist and a Jew". All Jain holy sites must display the swastika.

"You see All Hollows Eve original meant..." - that's nice, but now it's about costume parties and trick-er-treating.

"Christmas was originally a pagan celebration so ..." - well that's not what people think of it today.

"This flag / symbol / button / meme originally meant..." well that's nice, but that's not what it means now.

And don't get me started on St. Peter's Cross....

Back to the topic, all I can do is salute the bravery of those who went ashore. And the planners, the logistics (they built an underwater gasoline pipeline!), the code crackers, the people who deceived the Germans into believing that Normandy was a diversion... It was really a team effort, the sum of millions working together.

Bogiephil1:
My family, on my father's side, is Finnish. Both my paternal grandparents were from Finland and I know a little about Russia's efforts to conquer Finland during the war. I know the Finns fought ferociously during the Winter War and decimated the dispirited, poorly supplied, conscript Soviet troops and made Uncle Joe take notice. Congratulations on making the Russian Bear bleed.

Now it is Ukraine's turn.
