When I started the 7th grade, the school I had gone to the year before was closed, and I transferred to another school. One of my classmates told me about the teacher he had the year before, Miss Mary. This was about 53 years ago, and though the word spanko probably hadn't been coined then, I think Miss Mary must have been one. She kept a collection of about 20 paddles in her classroom. It was common for any grade school teacher then to have a paddle in her classroom, but I'd never heard of a teacher having more than one. Miss Mary also had a policy of giving a test, and then before returning the test papers, offering to give a grade of 100 to any student who would take 20 licks with a paddle. So what do the readers of LSF think? Did she have an obsession with spanking? Was her policy unjust?

morally iffy as well as unjust. you should only get marks of 100 if you have earned them through scholastic aptitude. she was inviting her pupils to buy good grades with the coinage of a 20 swat paddling. Not a teacher I would respect.

What on earth did she need 20 paddles for? Was each one personalised for a student? So if you could take 20 swats with the paddle you could pass regardless of your academic ability? I can see more than a few kids who struggled with classes for whatever reason taking on that deal. This in turn does nothing with their learning disabilities and merely passes the problem onto another teacher, one who doesn't swat because she enjoys it.

I'd say that this woman did, indeed, have an obsession with spanking and it was a very unjust policy for the reasons Rachel and Seegee stated...but what a story and fantasy that would make for those of us who would actually enjoy receiving 20 licks (or more).

I remember that when I was in the early years (up through third grade), our superintendent carried a paddle on his hip like a gunfighter. I remember this one time when it was either raining or snowing outside and we were having our recess time in the gym. I can't even remember what I did, but he suddenly grabbed my wrist and lifted me up on my toes and whacked my behind twice with that paddle.

Ummmm, "unethical" and "unprofessional" are the terms I'd favor in describing Miss Mary's 'educational approach.'

It strikes me as pretty obvious that the woman was a 'toppish' spankophile who enjoyed paddling her students, and she was in effect 'bribing' them with the 'currency' of unearned high grades, in order to get them to accept her spankings.

While I agree that it would be a fun fantasy to write about, especially from the perspective of a highly 'bottomish' spankophile pupil of hers ("Bare-bottomed after school for an 'excellent' in deportment, Miss Mary? Okay, but I'll require thirty extra-hard paddywhacks..."), but it's despicable behavior in a RL situation.

I'd have RL issues with a spankophile teacher administering corporal punishment, even if it were allowed by the school and deserved by its recipient... --C.K.

My first grade teacher often talked about spanking (or at least I remember the times that she did talk about it), about how when she was little sometimes the belt would wrap around her legs and that one time when she unscrewed the door knob so that her parents couldn't open the door to her room.

Later I found out that one of the boys who was then my classmate (who I barely remember) was being abused at home. Maybe that was her way of getting him to open up on the topic?

It was probably just a joke! At my first school one schoolmistress held a competition each term for the worst behaved boy in the class. The girls role in all this was to make "sensible" nominations as to which boy should receive this dubious honour. The prize was a "box of assorted smacks"! Not that I ever remember any boy coming forward to claim his prize at the end of term! It did however provide a little light-hearted entertainment for us all! Anyway, as regarding Miss Mary I should have had my hand up like a shot, as taking twenty licks was the only way I would ever have got top marks in any test.

I remember my first grade teacher was a mean witch who did take kids to the cloakroom in the back (I am really telling my age) and spank them with a paddle for a very small thing, like sneezing in class. Everyone was terrified of her. I remember my first day of school my mother couldn't take me so she had an older girl in the neighborhood take me and we got lost finding the class. Mrs. Williamson took her to the cloakroom and paddled her, then threatened me. I was so nervous I got sick and had to go home. My father made a trip to the school and she left me alone after that.

In Elementary school we had a male gym teacher who talked about spanking and paddling every chance he got. Often his stories were wrapped around some sort of moral, but they were always spanking stories. Oh yes, he was one of two male teachers who seemed to have the authority to paddle. He loved to take students into the gym storeroom for that purpose, leaving the rest of the class outside to listen.

Was he a spanko? I have absolutely no doubt!

It was allowed to spank in school when I was in primary school, apparently you could still do it at high school level with parental approval. That was what one teacher told us, but considering some of the behaviour I witnessed and no CP was forthcoming I don't believe her. We were never really spanked unfairly, although the 4th grade teacher had a tendency to hit first and ask questions later. They do occasionally talk about bringing it back, but I'd prefer they don't. I think most people would use it fairly and judiciously, but you would get those who didn't like Miss Mary.
