corporal punishment in universities

I'm not sure about the college students, but Bethel College in McKenzie, Tennessee used to include a high school. When the principal felt a student needed punishing he would take him into the woods, where he would cut a switch. He would alternate between whipping the student and praying for him, taking several turns with each activity. Once after switching a student until his arm was tired, the principal asked, "Is there nothing more I can do for you?" The poor student replied, "Yes sir, I believe you'd better pray for me again."

Given how popular spankings are in the South and in various Christian schools, I would be amazed if the practice didn't still occur at a small Southern Christian college somewhere, although I'm sure it's very much "off-the-books" and unofficial to avoid a segment on 60 Minutes. It may not be in the handbook, but I'm sure it's there, just like it's still "unofficially" practiced at hazings.

Schools that have policies interracial dating are surely backward enough to endorse paddling as well.

Do schools really have written policies about inter-racial dating in this day and age?
Although societal norms will still exist and do in many communities; it seems that incredible that an official body could even consider anything in writing!

In fairness, Bob Jones University did drop their dating ban in 2000, after it became a controversy during the Republican primary. But according to their Wikipedia entry, they still have bans against students having sex, short skirts, movies, and most of that demon rock-and-roll.

So back to point, if wouldn't surprise me if there were teachers at conservative Southern Universities LIKE this that paddled their students, although I have no evidence that they do.

Not only would that be "off the books," but it would be grounds for immediate dismissal. The cases are legion of sexual harassment, assault, stalking etc., for sexual liaisons between teachers and students. Can you imagine the hue and cry (stay tuned---film at 11:00) if a student complained that so and so wanted to paddle her for some offense? It would be viewed as some kinky sex peccadillo of a college professor, who would be disgraced, vilified, fired, divorced, and prosecuted. So if it occurs it would only be because the professor let his spanko sense override good sense and fear of criminal charges.

So no. It can't happen in any official, quasi-official, or even under the table capacity. If it does it's only because of an affair gone south or the victim seeking to make a few bucks by selling the story to the tabloids.

Extremely doubtful in the USA. The fraternities might still have some hazing and possibly some (doubtful) sororities. Administrations--NO. But maybe some small very christian community colleges might use CP. It wouldn't surprise me.

wow... the reality of it is quite a shame really, i would have thought that there would at least be a few special cases... how about in other countries? in parts of asia or africa?

I don't think it's common in the US, but I do think it happens. Obviously it's silly to argue about whether these sorts of activities ever happen WITHOUT being discovered, since by definition we'll never know what we'll never know. But if these are my results with a two minute Google search, I'm betting that yes, it happens. There's lots of nuts out there.

Falling or sagging behinds are the result of poor diet and/or inadequate exercise. The Far East formerly had a big advantage over us in respect of the former.

While it's difficult to believe that any real contemporary university could include corporal punishment in its administrative procedures, there are plenty of weird (or innovative) subjects featured on the curriculum thanks to funding from interested or eccentric sources, so why not a Chair of Corporal Punishment?
