I think it was very cunning of Fawkes et al to use the expected sound of fireworks displays on November 5th to mask the sound of their explosion in the houses of Parliament.

Not quite so cunning, though, was getting caught.

Ah, that explains the firecrackers on the banner. I was wondering.

This is the first I have heard of that holiday. Like FiBlue, I was wondering about the firecrackers. This is Election Day in the USA. Hope there are no explosions today!

Although I'm American, I ALWAYS celebrate on Guy Fawkes Day (even the 6/7ths of the years it's NOT election day). I was always curious why other people, not so much. Oh well, everybody's different (some just more different than others).

After reading this thread, I had to look up Guy Fawkes on Wikipedia. Interesting story. Thanks for bringing it to my attention

You have good reason to celebrate, Rick! On this side of the pond, today is the lesser-known (yet equally explosive) holiday known as "NJrick's birthday." Perhaps Februs and Flopsy will indulge your most fervent birthday wish and let you oversee the Help Desk, if even for the few remaining hours left today? If not, maybe your OTHER wish (one involving spanking, most likely) will come to pass. Enjoy!

They had pretty fierce intelligence services in those days
