Really Spanked or Not?

I was not surprised, although a touch disappointed, to hear Keira Knightley say in a recent interview that the caning she received in "A Dangerous Method" was completely fake and the cane never touched her beautiful backside.
This got me thinking about all the other on screen spankings I have marvelled at and delighted in over the past forty odd years.
Elvis spanking Jenny Maxwell in Blue Hawaii certainly seemed real and the fact her dress was wet, pretty painful to boot.
John Wayne also never seemed to hold back in any of his movies especially where Maureen O'Hara was concerned.
So, did these actresses wear padded pants or did they take a hit (or a few hits,so to speak) for the sake of artistic integrity?

Dude, they're not porn stars. They don't share our fetish (usually). Do you think action movie actors get real cuts and bleed real blood when their characters get hurt? This is no different.

I'm not sure about the girl in Donovan's Reef that John Wayne spanked. He hit her hard enough that you could see the dust fly off the seat of her dress. I am sure that she was wearing padding back there, though. Helena Bonham Carter did a wonderful job in Lady Jane when she was being birched. You never actually saw the birching, just the actresses face, but you could believe she was having it done to her from her reactions.

The 19 year old Jenny Maxwell stated at the time that that spanking was real and since the director insisted on making it look realistic that they did several takes. She said that Elvis was strong and on her wet dress it really hurt and she had a red bottom for quite some time afterwards.

She also said that there was a scene that was done after that where she is riding a horse and if you look carefully you can see that she is holding herself up so her sore bum doesn't come into contact with the saddle.

Absolutely, there are countless occasions when actors have been hurt for real while filming fight scenes or carrying out their own stunts.
I also don't think a spanking handed out in many of the older films would be considered as porn, just a normal day to day practice.
I was just wondering if some actresses would have decided it wasn't worth the hassle and told their co-stars to just go ahead and do it for real.

Maureen O'Hara said in at least one interview that the Duke left bruises on her lovely bottom in "McClintock" when he spanked her with that coal shovel. He certainly looked like he was serious (and enjoying himself) when he did it. Of course, a lot of Hollywood lefties claimed he couldn't act. Maybe he wasn't...

I think you have to look at the incident individually, a hand spanking is different than a caning or paddling, some actresses may agree to a hand spanking but a more severe situation may need to be manufactured, I have read the prior reports and I agree with Phil that Wayne and Elvis did spank the ladies. I note that Jennifer Aniston has been smacked a few times and seems to enjoy the action. The new age of Media seems to explore the real spanking idea but caning and such are not real. Just some thoughts.
