So how many of you know the meaning without reaching for an encyclopedia, or firing up Google ?

'Your submission is always a delight in spite of/because of its tender sapphic nature.

Unlike the more erudite and well-read members here, I needed the help of Google to find the following:

Nature, in the broadest sense, is equivalent to the natural world, physical world, or material world. "Nature" refers to the phenomena of the physical world, and also to life in general. It ranges in scale from the subatomic to the cosmic.

Definitely, you would never have found "subatomic" on your own....

I understood it. It's a classical Greek allusion. It's also a rather nice way of putting it.

Darn, I skimmed the question and missed its point. I hate when I do that.

Yes, that classic Greek reference rang a bell. And then there's the modern twist:
The inhabitants of the Isle of Lesbos keep launching protests and challenges against those who use that word to refer to anyone except the inhabitants of that island.

I always thought that sapphic nature referred to a "lesbian relationship" in the general sense. I have often wondered if there was a related word that referred to the relationship between two men, but have not seen such a word that has the same meaning without being considered rude or crude by some.
