blimp: I always thought Jersey accents were very similar to Guernsey ones!!
No, I think their "moos" are quite distinctive. (we ARE talking cows, aren't we?)

Cowes? No, that's to be found on a completely different island.

Another one for you, ordalie, from the story challenge: 'spare the road and spoil the child'.

My pet hate in oft-repeated misuse of language is 'just desserts'. If that means anything, it means no main course, only puddings.

And the pudding (presumably a big wobbling blancmange) is obviously being spanked!

The way I have always interpreted that expression is: Just.... meaning fair. Desserts.... meaning what comes afterwards (whether it be after dinner or after the misdemeanor ie. a spanking!).

I very much like the phrase "just desserts" and can see nothing wrong with using it! One of my aunts favourite expressions was "No jelly and ice cream for you!". In other words you are getting your "just desserts" which is no dessert at all! Still it never did me any harm as they say!!

Um ... I always thought it was 'deserts' as in 'what you deserve' and 'just' as in 'justice', but Jools' wobbling blancmange is, I confess, a far more tempting interpretation.

Well, my spanked characters tend to believe that they only 'deserve' the Kalahari or perhaps the Gobi, but they usually end up receiving the Sahara from their severely strict disciplinarians... --C.K.
