Curious if any of our readers out there use Halloween as their day to wear their school uniforms in public?

If so, I'm curious about the reaction you get (and how many jokes about THE PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE) you have to endure (or enjoy).

It's also a good time for girl scouts, cheerleaders, and all sorts of other naughty adult women to show their colors.

Stories, please! Remember your stories inspire ours...

Alas, in recent years I've seen more slutty X (slutty nurse, slutty maid, and the res) than school uniforms, or real attempts at costumes. For some reason the school girl costume isn't seen as erotic anymore.

Sigh.

That brings to mind a line from Barney in the first season of How I Met Your Mother. If I'm remembering the line correctly, he said that "Halloween is the one day a year when every woman can get in touch with her inner ho-bag." He went on to describe several different costumes for women, all of which were repetitions of, "If she's a nurse . . . she's a sllllllllutty nurse."

I appreciate the over the top sexiness of seXXXy costume genre but there is still something incredibly appealing about a well made, more realistic?, costume. Either way a good costume is a lot of fun and Halloween is a good excuse to don something unusual for a night. Luckily though, a typical Friday or Saturday night round here seems to attract almost as many people out onto the streets and to various bars, parties and night clubs in one sort of costume or another.

There's a hysterical video on YOUTUBE, an ad for "Girl's Costume Warehouse" where the sexy model sells costumes for "Sexy Abe Lincoln", "Sexy 19th Century Railroad Tycoon" "Sexy Wolverine" while cranky owner screams, "Get down here! It's almost Halloween, and what am I supposed to do with all these damn costumes???" Look it up; it's a riot.

I was in Las Vegas once when I saw a half dozen young women wandering through the Casino in Girl Scout Uniforms. Uniforms badges/looked pretty authentic, but a few of the girls were clearly in their late twenties and all the uniforms were cut just a bit too short. Occurred to me that on a different day, they might have ended up as the star of a story here.

If they were proportional to the women, then the uniforms might have been historic and not "short".

At one time little girls wore short skirts and young boys wore short pants. Then, as a girl grew, her hemline slowly dropped. You can find the occasional line in old books where the heroine talks about the days when she wore short skirts. Look at the average Our Gang or Shirley Temple movie and you'll see girls wearing skirts that are might higher than today's fashions for kids.

Put an adult woman in that style of uniform and you have a very attractive package - one that is historically accurate.

I did the grown up cheer leader once, borrowed an authentic outfit from one of the local highschool cheerleaders here. Not sexy, but it got attention. My sister was a pregnant girl scout, when she was in her early 20's, that was lots of fun, especially since she wore it to work.

There is a passage, for want of a better word, in the novel Little Women, by Louisa Mae Alcott, where the girls were punished by having to hem their dresses, making them the hem's width shorter. Not only was that a LOT of work because the floor length gowns they wore then, (post Civil War, I believe) were very full, but it also said that after being turned up several times, the dresses started to become too short to be presentable, or proper. I guess they were allowed to undo them for good behavior.

I'd have been sewing till my butt hung out. Need to look for alternative to sewing I think.
