We hear lot about comment quantity, but what about quality? I hope the following will remind new commenters what we're looking for ...

Here's help, if you haven't a clue:
Superlatives always ring true.
Use tone deferential
That's really essential.
Remember, it's not about you!

For me comments can be very helpful. If I know what the reader liked(or didn't like) about the story, it helps me in writing the next one. So what I'm looking for is feedback that gets into specifics. If you want to just say how much you liked the story, that's ok, but I'll really appreciate your efforts if you tell me WHY---and, I'll get back to you on that. Sometimes a dialog develops and that's a good thing too.

I have to say that about 90% of the comments I get from authors and readers gives a little smidgen of details to them. The why, as rollin says. it could be just a few words, but it's usually there.

So, like: Most distinguished and learned writer: that was really, really, absolutely the most outstandingly awful piece of writing I've ever read. Profuse congratulations!

But that's exactly what you always write about my stories BH
