Is it true that in the States you don't have what we call here telephone showers but only showers fixed onto the wall?
This is because I've recently read somewhere that it was to prevent indecent showering of the intimate parts and thus reaching an orgasm.

LOL...I know for a fact that both US and Canada have telephone showers. The purpose of which can be determined by the user of such shower....LMAO

I can safely say I'be never heard of "telephone shower". Sounds like a terrible electrocution risk, if you ask me.

Seriously ... you must mean those detachable shower heads connected by a flexible hose, right? I've seen this occasionally in US hotels, but not very often, and usually not in peoples homes. It does seem more like a European thing. Not having run into these very much, I haven't investigated some their stimulating possibilities ...

I thought everyone had them if they wanted them.

I am a plumber and I quite happily fit telephone style handsets to showers for people if they ask nicely. Actually, I'll do it if they don't ask nicely, but then they have to pay more.

They seem to have had a bit of a revival in recent years as people get fed up with perfectly round tap handles which can't be operated with wet hands. There are far more of the old fashioned styles which were around 100 years ago, and these often have the telephone style handset which sits on a cradle above the bath mixer tap.

I love mine, and have them in all three showers home. I would never go back to a fixed shower head. No, many homes in the US have them. I don't know who gave you that idea, ordalie. LOL

Like others, I've never heard the term "Telephone Shower". But yes, anyone who wants a hose-type shower can buy one in any department store or home improvement store. I have never heard of them having any type of sexual connotation. To me, they're just a different style of shower head.

A great advantage of them is that you can raise or lower the shower head to different heights so they are perfect for small kids and taller adults sharing the same shower So I can imagine that such an ingenious invention would be an available option in many countries where people like to shower.
