However, many months ago it was that I applied for tickets via the ballot I could hardly believe that last night I would be going to the Olympic Park. I live approximately 10 miles from the Park and Hubby and I have watched it developing over the last years as we drove to work in the city of London.

Since the Olympics began. I have been watching avidly and enjoying everything that I saw. There is no doubt that the BBC has done an absolutely amazing job with regard to their camera and filming of all events, together with outstanding commentary.

From the moment we arrived at the Park there were no end of helpful volunteers, Armed Forces and of course the police force. The common thing that applied to each and every one of them was the warmth and welcome to the Park, everybody but everybody wanted you to enjoy the experience.

The Park itself has been so beautifully crafted and all the walkways that can be seen on the television were even more breathtaking, lined with the most magnificent foliage and flowers. We were exceptionally lucky with the weather, as we know in England, we are not always so fortunate. There was so much to see as you walked around the park. Activities, Brass Bands, Scottish Dragoon Guards, costume clad people etc etc.

There was such an amazing feel good factor about being part of an amazing historical event, let's face it; I personally am unlikely to attend another Olympics. As I mentioned at the outset our tickets were for the athletics we went in the Stadium just before 7pm. We were utterly overwhelmed with the vision before us. Seeing it on television is one thing, but being there in real life is another, we pinched each other.

We could see the pole vaulting very well and in fact they were more or less in front of us, some fine male bottoms were on display! The noise in the stadium was absolutely deafening and the flag-waving was just amazing, what a stupendous experience.

I must admit while we were there. I was even in greater awe of the BBC coverage. On television you really benefit from having superlative photography and filming but of course, you lose the atmospheric experience.

When we got home we watched the highlights on television. We are so grateful to have experienced the Olympics and indeed feel most fortunate and privileged.

And, so very proud, the Brits have provided a wonderful stage hosting the 2012 Olympics.

They certainly have! While I'm no great fan (beyond female beech volleyball of course) it has been abundantly clear the this session of the Olympics has been very well ran, and that the Brits have been great hosts.

Thanks for the first-person description, and congratulations on your good luck to be able to see the spectacle through your own spectacles.

Miss Naughty,

Thank you so much for your very vivid and extremely enthusiastic description of being in the audience and part of the crowd at the Olympics.

I am sooo jealous, I can tell you.

But the next best thing to being there oneself must surely be to hear of it first-hand from someone such as yourself ... so thanks for your generosity in sharing it with us.

I agree wholeheartedly!!! I have been watching on TV as much as I could, but I can't imagine actually being a part of the whole experience. To walk through the park and see it all first hand must have been awesome. Thank you so much.

Thanks for that, MN. What a wonderful once in a life time experience. I've been to many sporting events, but never been lucky enough to attend an Olympic session.

You were indeed fortunate. The beeb have done a magnificent job.
Tonight was tremendous -Mo Farah, and The Jamaican sprint team.

They have done a terrific job with the Olympic park, transformed what was fifty years ago a large railway complex which closed and ran into disrepair with a few scruffy low grade light industrial buildings, and the river Lea wasn't much more than an open sewer a decade or so ago.

Just let's hope that the legacy is good.
