If I were to be compared to a hunting cat, I think I'd rather a leopard, sleek, powerful, handsome, clever. I've heard them referred to as the aristocrat of the plains.

But the LION is the King of the jungle heheh! I don't see the term cougar as offensive tho haha.. to me it means a woman (of any age, and I am in mid 40s) who pursues a younger man... personally as a spanko (and if I were single) I would go for either at least 7 years older or at least 7 years younger.. so either side of the spectrum hehe! Does that make me a Cougar or a cub Either way I don't personally find the term insulting. I also see the typical cougar - as portrayed on TV- as a MILF haha! And if Cougar Town is anything to go by they are all pretty attractive women whom any man would be lucky to score!) So I guess one could take it as a complimentary term. I wouldn't worry about it so much Ordalie! x

If you've ever seen a lion in the wild jools it makes you wonder about that king of the jungle tag. They're big and strong, but they're pretty scarred up and not at all attractive. They spend most of their day sleeping and fighting with their brothers, while the females hunt and look after the kids. They're the cat kingdom equivalent of the street tough. Lions actually scavenge every bit as much as the hyena.

Sounds like it is really the Lioness who is the king of the jungle then (okay I am awaiting male retributoin for this heheh) But Seegee, you got me started with your 'Lions are scarred and not that attractive and fight their bros! Then follow all that up with a good sleep!' hehhe Perhaps Cougars, in terms of female MILFS, should really be called Lionesses!)

I'm fed up with all the 'cool' animals getting all the attention, what about the lesser known species like the aardvark or the capybara or the three-told sloth?

And you don't see famous golfers naming themselves after those either... now if he'd chosen to call himself Aardvark Woods instead of Tiger Woods he'd have had my full support.

You don't think an aardvark is sexy?

If any of you began referring to me as Architeuthis dux, I don't believe I would mind.

Read Cerebus if you want aardvark action. He was an aardvark and a hero, he made it with some very attractive women too. Now the warthog is a creature that I think should get some more attention. They're not pretty, but they are as hard as a cat's head.
Jools, lionesses rock. The males are really disgraceful. Neither of them are particularly efficient hunters, though, despite the reputation. I once saw a lioness try all night for a kill and mess up every attempt, admittedly one of them was the fault of a dopey hyena, and didn't she give that one what for when she came back and found out he'd scared off the deer she was considering.

AlanBarr:
It could be a sign that older woman+younger man is becoming more socially accepted.

Well that is surely good news, Alan.
That Victorian attitude that a woman needs an older man to direct her has always irritated me; there is little empirical evidence that men are more mature than women or need male guidance to succeed. A colleague of mine in her 50s had been with a man in his thirties who adores her for a number of years and she is always sheepish and apologetic as if she is not worthy of a man who loves her. I'm sure some of it is her quiet, humble personality, but it is sad our sexual and societal morays are so inflexible.
