Never heard that term myself. Actually, I'm to understand that women reach their sexual peak at 40 anyway, and since when is 40 over the proverbial hill? Actually 'cougar' to a sexy woman of 40 would be like a tiger by the tail, ah?

I think it's an absolutely degrading word!
Would they speak of cougar about 40-year-old men? Of course not!
It just seems women are just allowed to have sex drives when they are between 18 and 39 years old, afterwards it's just plain shameful lust.

The word cougar in this context has nothing to do with being a certain age... In this country anyway is it used to describe a 'predatory' woman, who can be of pretty much any age, who 'hunts' men who are much younger than her, often several in a short time. This woman could be a 30 year old, sleeping with 16 year olds (here anyway) or it could be an 80 year old sleeping with 40 year olds.

I don't think your sex drive is under attack ordalie!!

Over here they call them Nymphos. However, they can be of any age, too.

I've heard that about ladies, too, that they reach their sexual peak their mid to late 30's, whereas men do it when they're about 17. Why is nature so cruel? In this day and age I'm sure Mrs Robinson would be classified as a 'cougar'. Anyone know why they chose that particular hunting cat? The male equivalent would probably be a randy old goat. That would link in with the image of the satyr as a sexual creature.

Wikipedia:
"Cougar is a slang term referring to a woman who seeks sexual relations with considerably younger men.

Typically, the term refers to women over 30 years old who pursue men more than seven years younger. The origin of the word is debated, but it is thought to have originated in Western Canada and first appeared in print on the Canadian dating website Cougardate.com"

Oh sure, blame us poor little Canadians, stuck in the frozen waste land....

LOL...perhaps because we do have a few wild animals around the place might be the source of the word, ones tend to put things they see and know in terms that everyone can understand.

A real life cougar is one smart animal, it lives by its instincts and is very successful at what it does. The cat is beautiful and if something is hunted by it, then there is extreme danger.

What I am trying to get across is that being compared to a cougar could be taken as a compliment. One has to be smart, beautiful and rather sneaky, all terms that fits in with a relationship where the saying is "all is fair in love and war" and please no women write they never were just a little sneaky about getting or keeping the man they wanted.

A lot of younger men are thrilled to be paid attention to by a smart beautiful lady and the subject of age seldom comes up if the relationship is a good one. This is not a 70 year women marrying a 30 year old man. This is a lady in her 30's dating a man in his 20's, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

That's a good point. It could be a sign that older woman+younger man is becoming more socially accepted.
