Help needed

My solution: Scrunch up the duvet cover as you would a sock before putting it over your toes; insert top corners of duvet into the top corners of the cover; hold tightly on to the corners from the outside, stand on bottom of bed and hold up, gravity will do the rest.

Engineer's solution: have a beer and contemplate the problem. Have another beer while sketching possible solutions. Work up a sweat trying to get it to work. Have a third beer while checking wikipedia for instructions. Give up and order a washable comforter with no cover needed, and sleep under uncovered duvet when it arrives. When Mrs. Dund returns, point out that you managed fine with no duvet covers before you met her, and she can get rid of the blasted pillow shams, too.

PS: How many pricks do you people need in one bed? Honestly.

Here I was making a serious and sensible solution to the problem, talking about diaper pins vs. safety pins and their use for fixing a duvet and ya'll turn it into something, my Mama would be ashamed of. Ya'll need to be spanked for your unfortunate minds.

I'm glad I have a quilt...no need for a duvet covet.

Jools I'm sure mrs dund will find plenty of reasons to keep me sitting uncomfortably.
The dishwasher scenario for example.

Turn the cover inside out.
Put hands inside the cover and grip top corners.
Through top corners grip corners of duvet.
Hold up high and shake strongly. The cover will fall down over the duvet.
Take hold of lower corners of duvet through the lower corners of cover. Shake strongly imitating an ocean wave.
Do up buttons and shake from the bottom again as you place the duvet on the bed.
Good sleeping.
Just noticed Flowerchild's comment about a quilt. This implies the use of sheets that the duvet obviates the need for.I have also seen quilt covers which puts us back to the first question.

Thanks for that nibra, but my problem is our bed is a super king size. 1800 x 1800.
I'd need arms like an orangatang to hold each corner.
It looks likely I'll have to do the unmanly thing and admit to mrs d I will need a help on future laundry days.

In your case it really is a job for two, nothing unmanly about admitting you need help in the household dept.
Now if it were a dripping tap, squeaky or sticking door then that's a different matter
If we ever get any summer this year then you can wimp out by saying it's so hot and sticky at night that we probably only need the duvet cover and neatly fold the quilt on top.

I always lay the duvet on the bed, take the left side and fold over 1/3. I then take the right side and fold that over 1/3 onto the top so I have a duvet 1/3 the normal width. Next i take the top and fold in half, with the two ends at the bottom of the bed. I now lay the duvet covet on the bed above the folded duvet. I gradually ease the duvet into the cover until the cover reaches the bottom of the bed. I undo the fold in half so the base is at the bottom at the top edge of the duvet is at the top of the cover. Then I undo the two 1/3 folds and adjust the duvet so its corners meet the corners of the cover. finally I do up the poppers at the base of the cover, hold the top two corners and shake the duvet to make sure its all ok. Takes about 2-3 minutes without a single cross word said.

That's definitely THE solution: NO COVER! Mine haven't seen the light of day for decades.
