How about you are the hired gardener, who fails to do an impeccable job of the lawn... surely a win win situation for your wife hehe... at least she gets the lawn mowed to near perfect hehe :P... a trip to the woodshed for you is surely to ensue (especially if you dig up / mow down her prize begonias etc hehe).

I'm sitting a see bit gingerly just now as Mrs D has just carried out her promise. No role play, just bare bottom otk.
By the way jools, have you been peeking through our trees? I am a useless gardener and the shed is waiting. Nice one

I would not look for any unlikely scenarios unless you really want that.
Perhaps a modification of the good old Spencer plan would suffice.
Most men of our age group have fallen into bad habits.
A good thrashing for forgetting to compliment her on a new hair do or when she makes a special effort ie when going out shouldn't be too difficult to manage.
The gardening idea could be extended to household maintenance-dripping taps, squeaky doors , untidiness, etc.
I don't know who cooks in your household, but just eating a delicious meal, (forgetting to compliment or thank her) drinking too much wine and promptly falling asleep on the sofa would provide your wife with a very good excuse.
You could even make up a menu of penalties; then you would be able to control your punishments!
In other words just behave like most sixtyish men and suffer the consequences.
Perhaps being away often means that familiarity doesn't set in though-if so then you are both very lucky!

You could role-play around the scenario of Who Ate All the Pies? Who ate them? - why, you of course! You vehemently deny it but, silly boy, you have the crumbs of evidence all round your mouth. As punishment you will receive a sound thrashing from cook who yanks you by the ear and bends you over the kitchen table.

Just think of the benefits - a toasty bottom AND you get to scoff some pies

I find flopsy's position most difficult to argue with.
