I am not arguing against that I just questioned the seemingly obsessive obsession with comments! I mean are we not in danger of being obsessively obsessive?

Well, damn it all, Arthur, now you've got me worried about being not simply normally obsessive but rather "obsessively obsessive."

I've just gotten back to the Library after a brief hiatus, and now I'm already worried about my potential "obsessive obsession" with story comments.

So I've got to start focusing on having only a non-obsessive obsession on that subject.

"Focusing"... or "obsessing?"

I am delighted to report that I have now been able to have a bath! Obviously, this has also pleased 1 or 2 people that may sit next to me. Unbelievably, in the last day, I have had 5 comments which, I assume, being largely driven by this thread. I look forward to having another bath very soon

Well, I'm going to start out merely "focusing" on having a non-obsessive obsession, but you may have a point--I could end up "obsessing" about it.

However, I'd only be "casually obsessing" about having a non-obsessive obsession RE story comments... --C.K.

about having a non-obsessive obsession

How can you have a non-obsessive obsession? In all my life I have never heard anything so ridiculous!! You are dragging this thread down to a new low I feel!

If one is obsessed with making sure one is not obsessive, then is one truly obsessive or are they not obsessive because of their obsession not to be obsessive. Of course one could carry the obsession not to have an obsession to the point of being obsessed, so one would have an obsession to make sure they did not cross the line into obsession from their desire not be be obsessive. Of course if one had an obsession to not cross the line into obsession then regardless of any effort to be non-obsessive would have to be counter acted by a supreme effort to fight back the obsession once again by obsessing not to be obsessive.

I would think this now draws this thread much lower then CK ever intended.

I like to make comments on the stories but have only recently begun to do so. I find it hard to say something that has not already been said. In the comments I feel it is sometimes like a competition to see who can say the most. Some comments are almost longer than the stories and cover every aspect of the theme. I try not to say good or great story and nothing else. I do feel guilty when I do not leave a comment but if I was forced to comment more by some means I probably would not read as much. I hope that the writers will realise that reading their work is in itself a compliment from some of us.

Then you need to live longer! There are plenty more ridiculous things out there being said. But don't obsess about it, ok?

Nah. CK is ALWAYS going to say the most. So just accept that. and say what YOU want to say, be it a little or a lot.

Ahhhh, it involves a delicate psychological 'balancing act,' not everyone can avoid being obsessive about their obsessions.

Of course, it helps greatly if you've been a married man for quite a while... --C.K.

As someone who was here for months without commenting, I strongly support the namby-pamby liberal wing on this thread who use grounding and long reasoned discussions rather than the tried & tested good old fashioned methods that grandma would have used. I like commenting, & I like getting them, but I don't understand why everyone has to be forced to do it? Mati among others has laid out very well the conflicts for some of us; even simple computer-phobia and cackhandedness can be an issue for some people e.g. me. I did try to post a couple of comments after a few weeks but I kept getting the Awaiting Validation message & I couldn't hang around. I've no idea what I was doing wrong, but it was enough to put me off.
