Poor Febris was still getting blamed for fevers in the 1800s? How unfair!

And they called themselves learned men!

Didn't they know that Nergal has been responsible for fevers since the days of Sumer when the Mesopotamian deities were first documented?

Then again, without the use of latin names I wouldn't have stumbled over the word "erubescent" and written "Halls Commercial" - which was the first story posted under the name "Goodgulf". I'd written and posted a bit before, but erubescent was half the inspiration for that story.

To save people time looking up the word:
erubescent:
reddening
L erubescent-, erubescens, pres. part. of erubescere to grow red, fr. e- + rubescere to grow red

Poor Febs. It can't have been his fault.

Erubescent. I do like that word. Mmm "erubescent" rolls it round the tongue

Erythema ab ferula sounds like a name one might give to either an Arab or a Welsh character with possibly slight amendment (e.g. Erythema ap Ferula). Erubescent also has naming potential as in Eru Beasant.

Is it really necessary to use such silly tactics to try to increase one's self importance and increase the mystery of a job.

In this special case it has some advantages. The English name "Hot-water bottle syndrom" reminds me on the travelers guide of George Mikes: "How to be an alien" in which he describes the sex-life of the Brits in one sentence. He stated: "Continental people have sex life; the English have hot-water bottles". So the term "hot-water bottle" is forever tied together to British sex life for me. The latin term in contrast leaves much more room for fantasies as you see in all replies above.
