Stopped by the LSF to see if if anyone had commented on my latest story. Discovered that it hasn't even been loaded yet, likely due in no small part to the its being only half-written. Nosed around the site rather than working on my unfinished story. Found out that no one has commented on any of my old stories either. Decided not to read anyone else's stories - if they won't comment on mine, why should I read theirs? Made a snide post on the forum. Checked the stats pages to determine whether the Library is suffering another comments slide. Wrote this entry in my log. Another day like (almost any) other...

Publish or perish, rick. It's that way in academia and no less true here. So get back to work on that masterpiece.

My half-written stories are also little appreciated. What's with that?

Woke up, had to go to DC with wife. Then to the courthouse in Maryland. Went through all the red tape with the bureaucrats and other A-holes. Came home.. checked my email, stories, went to BL and found that I've been elected to be whacked by who else....???? Miss Naughty. The nerve....

Work, work work... who do you think i am - Februs?

Personally, I think it's a form of prejudice - "anti-half-completion bigotry" maybe.

You could always take two half-completed stories, and put them together to make one full story. Since only a few of us read them anyway, and even fewer of us comment on them, its unlikely anyone will notice. It WILL serve to improve your stats, which is, of course, the most important thing!

By the way, I find that my half-written stories are usually pretty witty. Does that make me a half-wit?

Or of course you could not write any story but just put a comment on the forum that states that you did. Then of course the ones that like your stories will be encouraged to look for it and perhaps will review your older stories. Perhaps you might even get a comment out of your older stories.

Or perhaps just put a comment on the forum that you are working on a story and some people may remember who you are and go back and look at your old stories. Maybe you will get a few more reads and perhaps even a comment.....oh wait...that is what you did!

Boy was I dumb to suggest such a thing.

You are pitiful, Rick. I just visited and read three of your stories and I was amazed at how many comments your gathered glancing down at your Author's Page. You have been showered with appreciative comments and you do deserve them.
i sense the current readers seem to go for the "latest" list and do not delve into the stacks. We all need to promote the Lucky Dip to get newbies beyond that superficial sampling.Too many of them are new authors and after you read them, there is nowhere to go for more.
Oh, and to cheer you up, I read and commented, thoughtfully on three of yours. Have a lovely day; you write the sweetest, sexiest stories on the site.

Hmmm...

That would be (only slightly-shameless) self-plugging! Never(more) would I do such a thing!

With that encouragement, how could I not complete my half-finished story (withOUT pasting it together with another half-written story, tank you very much smeple)? It's DONE. FINISHED. COMPLETED. And.... submitted to LSF!

BTW one interesting feature is to look at the stats tab on your author page and see if you are being read, especially in those times when you have nothing new to post. I have noticed a drop off in hits over the last few days and I expect that to continue until I put up something new. Comments aside, it's really the volume of readership that drives everything. I get about 2.6 comments per 100 hits and that stays fairly constant. So if the readership drops off, yeah, I'll be getting fewer comments---but then that is exactly what I'd expect. Since I'm trying to do the contest, I won't be posting new material, so my readership will decline steadily---again, exactly what I'd expect.
