blimp:
Which reminds me of that Leonard Cohen song! He called her "the mean governess of those huge pink maps" but then he is an American so what do you expect?
Actually, as Phil K indicated, Leonard Cohen is indeed Canadian, but he is also American. From North America. Where Canada (and the US) both reside. The problem seems to be that no one has figured out how to say someone is from the United States, without sounding too clumsy or using too many words (e.g. I'm a United States citizen? I'm from the United States? I'm a United States-ian?) So, everyone from the US just says "I'm American." Which we are. But so are a lot of other non-US people, like Canadians, Mexicans, Guatamalans, Brazilians (some are Central and South Americans, but still Americans) etc. Who are probably just a little teed off that only people from the US are considered "Americans."
Though when they see the nutty and smarmy politicians we have here in the US, they may be a little less teed off, because who wants to be associated with them?
Not sure where I was going when I started writing all this, but I think I've arrived.
