The story that a local council had replaced Christmas with Winterval was an invention of a certain newspaper. The council concerned had organised a winter festival starting well before Christmas and in no way replacing Christmas or those Christmas celebrations supported by the council. This is pretty typical. The one about banning the term "manhole covers" was similar.
There was a council where a zealous officer in the Women's Unit started using "Herstory" instead of "History" wherever the topic was women, but the resolutely feminist councillor who chaired the committee blew a gasket and told her not to be such a bloody fool. |
