ROLLIN

Your older stories, I have read on other websites, as well as your own. They are all Classics. Of course, now, I will have to reread them again and then, comment. There are quite a few authors in the same situation.
There are authors with great stories; some from the defunct geocities, are no longer interested in their stories being read. That is what I have been told by them.

Another point to remember is that Februs's statistics (which are a wonderful asset - please don't think of dropping them, Febs) don't necessarily give a full picture. Quite often I'll open a story, discover after a couple of paras that it's not my kind of thing (M/M, for example), and close it again. But it's still registered as having been 'read'.

Sebastian:

Well one thing to note is that there is a difference between my "old" stuff and the new (circa 2010-11) stuff. My old stories (and this is true the older they are) are written in a style that was popular in the '70's a la de Granamour and Henry. Newer stuff gets away from that mostly ("Gwen's" being the exception) in an attempt to be more plot and character driven. I think the newer is better, but that's just me

I do this all the time, so I am very aware of the relevance of looking at hits. It does not mean someone read your story because they may have scanned a paragraph and figured "nah...not my thing." Especially true with serials.

njrick:
living without Baseball, you probably can't appreciate how lengthy discussions about the relevance and importance of obscure statistics can be such a consuming passion.

Oh absolutely. From my lobbying for releasing "batting averages" on story contests to observing the frequency of "no hitters" on the LAST READ pages, stats are where it's at. (What's a no hitter? In baseball it's good, in LSF it's not. It's when you page back through the last 600 reads and find no hits on any story of yours.)

I, too, love the stats here, having honed my maths skills (yes, all of them) on football league tables as a youngster. So, plea Three, Februs: hands off!

And I, too, have sometimes despaired when I've felt my work ignored. I mostly succeed now in just feeling grateful for those who do read and feed back, but the LSF's been for me a great humbler of hubris, an evaporater of ego, as the illusion of Great Author Recognition is burned in the fires of Indifference (sorry, too much wine).

mati:
if authors want more readers and more views they should think of ways to promote this library on the net.

Mati, as usual, is right: we need more readers; not easy with our 'specialist subject'. Perhaps we should form a Committee for Rolling Out Publicity? Or a Furthering the Library Outreach Group?

or what we call the "marketing committee". I wonder though how many other boards, blogs, what have you, permit the citation of links to other sites. My guess is that some of them take the position that they don't allow the posting of URL's promoting competing sites, like SIN maybe. Does anyone know?

We do have an arrangement with a number of blogs and spanking-related sites to give us a bit of free publicity on an ongoing basis, or to coincide with special events, which is great. We could no doubt generate considerably more publicity if we chose to go down the commercial route - which we don't.

I would imagine that each web site has it's own policy regarding links, reciprocal or otherwise.

I was thinking perhaps more along the lines of The Church of The LSF with disciples heading out in all directions on the interwebs, spreading the LSF gospel on blogs and forums and whatever else is out there. Perhaps of greater import now that Mammon, I mean Google, has de-indexed us.

This excerpt taken from The Book of Flopsybunners, Chapter 324, Verse 87:

"And lo, stumbleth they upon the Library of Spanking Fiction and great was their rejoicing. And asketh they, 'What goeth on here then?' Then came the reply, 'Readeth lots, writeth lots and commenteth more.' And readeth and commentheth lots they did. Blessed are the commenters for they improveth thy stats greatly."

And the Spanking Lord was mightily displeased, and he sendeth his most favoured angel to deliver a message to the disciples.
"I come," quoth the Angel Kilahara, "with the word of the Lord. Take heed. The Lord saith thou shalt worship no God but I."
"Put away thy foolish numbers. Thy works are the work of the Lord; thy readers merely communicants, eager for divine guidance. Not all that counts can be counted."
"Yea, and cursed be the stats-gatherers for their works shall turn to dust and they shall be cast down and inherit only misery."
And lo, a bright light shone in the sky, and a thunderbolt came and utterly destroyed all spreadsheets, and the disciples did run to their laptops in shame and continue the work of the Lord with renewed fervour and obeisance.

Here endeth the lesson.

22. And it came to pass that there was visited upon the tribe of the Vanilliads great woe and pestilence, so that they were sore distressed. And certain among them sought out the great Spanko prophet Februs and cried unto him, saying, O wise and mighty Prophet, what must we do to be saved?
23. And the prophet answered them, saying, Call together all thy people, that they may hear me. And bring before me one of the comeliest among thy maidens.
24. So the Vanilliads assembled, yea all their tribe. And they brought from amongst them a young maiden of much comeliness and presented her to the prophet. And he, seating himself upon a rock, drew the maiden down across his knee and bared her hinder parts. And great was the beauty of them.
25. And behold, Februs smote the young maiden lustily upon her hinder parts, until they glowed like the sun in its splendour. And the maiden wept full sore and cried out, yet seemed she not truly distressed.
26. Then having chastised the maiden, Februs spoke unto the Vanilliads, saying, Go ye and do likewise. And they hearkened unto his word, and there arose from among them the sound of much spanking. And great was the joy thereof among all the people, so that thereafter they prospered mightily.
