Hello there! I was just curious about a thing, and I hoped the librarians might answer one tiny question... I am writing a story with some text messaging conversations in it. I have done this before, but I was hoping to make it a bit more modern by having some graphics in the story similar to this (but generated with 'callouts' available in word 2K):

http://www.google.com/imgres?num=10&hl=en&biw=1192&bih=543&tbm=isch&tbnid=WcfM3i4pbhr UKM:&imgrefurl=http://kbabyluv.blog.com/%3Fpage_id%3D575&docid=k-S3d9ULJtLWSM&imgurl= http://data.whicdn.com/images/6935701/get_image_thumb.php%253F1297013284&w=240&h=200& ei=0NbwT_m4GcTL2QXn0qXWCg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=253&vpy=270&dur=1738&hovh=160&hovw=192&t x=88&ty=99&sig=115436807935516723524&page=2&tbnh=157&tbnw=186&start=15&ndsp=18&ved=1t :429,r:7,s:15,i:146

Is this even a remote possibility?

P.S. In an unrelated coincidence... I tried to post a picture of what I have in the actual story, but couldn't figure it out and ironically (considering my above example picture)... I accidentally emailed the picture to my wife! LOL! Good thing she likes my stories! LOL! Too funny! Good thing there were not any cell phones when I was a kid, lol. I am guessing there is no way to post a picture on this forum?

Regards,
Christian

I'm pretty sure no pictures are allowed

Thanks for the answer but.... Technically... It's not a picture. It's graphics (with text inside of them). Is that possible?

That's not something we'd want to reproduce, and personally, I'm not convinced it adds any value.

christian,

Maybe they will let you use italics for one and bold for the other in the conversation. I have to agree with febs here, I don't think it would add any value either. Good thought though. I think most of the people are just as happy reading your dialogue in the messages.

When I've done this sort of thing then I've used italics and bold to get the different voices. It gives enough distinction to work well.

One other alternative would be to use an html blockquote on alternate messages which would have the effect of indenting the text.

Ah well, it was worth a thought. Thank you very much for your prompt reply. On second thought I suppose I will just do what I have done before when representing text messages:

Message received 4:56:10 P.M. 2-8-11

Dude Billy looks like pounded hamburger! Did u get spanked? Cuz
everyone must of heard something last hour.
-d3vi0us Ang3l

Message sent 4:56:54 2-8-11

WTF! What r u talking bout?
-Kristen

Message received 4:57:40 P.M. 2-8-11

Uh... U left school showin off ur red thighs dude. Everyone's talking about it.
-d3vi0us Ang3l

That works just as well (much to the detriment of the young ladies in my stories). Oh and thank you kindly for your auspicious remark Bendover!

And now for the shameless plug section of my post, I should have something to publish for here soon if there is anyone still interested in my tales (tails?) of woe.

Again thank you for your generous reply.

Kind Regards,
Christian

On a separate and somewhat personal note, I have to say, from a literary point of view, I can't think of anything worse than having to read text speak, it really is a blight on the English language.
