Observation on feedback

Personally, no. If someone has suggestions about how I might improve, I'd rather hear/read them privately than have my shortcomings published for a couple of thousand readers to see.


Hmm ... no writer can please everyone. The audience is wide and varied, so it would, in my opinion, be impossible. Some people like my writing, some don't, and that's ok. I wouldn't expect someone whose interest was in stories about children being spanked, or fathers disciplining their adult sons, to enjoy my stories.


Exactly what I said earlier in this thread. But it wouldn't be humiliating if the constructive criticism/offer of help was made in private.

If the two immediate comments I got to my last story are an indication of this, Hurrah and Bravo! Of course, the "commentors" may or may not have been approved ones - it would be interesting to know who those people are - but both were familiar and well represented writers for this library. The "approved" list isn't a static thing (it's not strictly speaking a list just a marker set on people's accounts to indicate whether their comments need validation or not), and as of this moment it's basically anyone who has made one or two comments responsibly, in other words the vast majority of commenters .. I haven't written a script to gather them all or anything - we're just doing it manually and adhoc as new people comment. If you've previously made sensible comments and find that your comments still need approval it's almost certainly due to the fact that we've unintentionally overlooked you rather than anything else. In the ideal world, we wouldn't need any of this of course.

I enjoy writing stories here at the site. I enjoy getting feedback from other people as well. I think everyone here does to a certain point. I think criticism should be kept private though. Personally, I'm not going to email someone to tell them they have problems here and there. It's their style of writing and if one doesn't like it, then they just close and move on.

I like serials, but the ones that are over 2,000 words a piece kind of lull me to sleep at times if there is a lull in the action. Of course, the story has to have a bit of build up to it, too. There needs to be some descriptive data for the reader to get a feel of the environment and setting. The characters are a major object as well.

I enjoy stories with a sense of realism in them, too. But, that's the fun with fiction. There are no cops, social service workers and the like, we can get away with just about anything. I'm not a big fan of overly abusive stories, especially where they involve teens and under.

For the most part, I enjoy quite a bit of the stories that are written here. I don't always make comments, but I try to whenever I see fit. Because I don't comment doesn't mean I didn't like a story. This usually happens when I'm validating. I just want to get it over with and move on, but there are those that deserve something said about them.

One thing I'd like to say to everyone is: Thank you for taking the time to read my stories. Thank you for the comments. I only have nine so far, but it looks as though they're fairly enjoyed by the number of times they've been read. I enjoy writing them and I enjoy having them read. Thanks again to the administrators who make this all possible.

Here's a real gem of a thread, dating back even before I came to the Library, showing both the long-standing concern about reader feedback and the way F&F used member feedback to shape the site. It also brings back voices of dear friends, since departed (remembering you, Linda and bend over).

Thanks, Rick, this thread is indeed a nostalgic trip, and a fascinating insight into the early stages of development of what has become the most comprehensive spanking library ever conceived and delivered - reminiscent, I would suggest, of the Great Library of Alexandria in its pioneering greatness and ambitious scope.

Have we had a 10th anniversary yet? When would it be?

The 10th anniversary would be about 11 months from now, based on the day count.

I make it 3652 days in these 10 years (inc. two leap years), which means the 10th anniversary will be in 308 days' time, which is... August 30th?

We've lost far too many members over the years... in many ways, of course, but I'm specifically thinking of those who have died.

The times they are a-changin', but some things are not. It's rather strange to see exactly the same topics we are discussing now being discussed, with many of the same arguments, almost ten years ago. It seems to me that the comments have found their form - mainly positive, but with friendly objections allowed - but that we are facing a decline in their number. It's not easy to say why. Perhaps it is just a temporary decline because some of the most active commentators have left us or are less active than before, but it's also possible that something in the atmosphere of the site has changed. It's important that we keep the sense of a living, active community where members engage and interact.
