As the dust settles on the 500 word challenge and the New Year beckons it's probably a good idea to push back the dates for the Winter Theme Picture Challenge to allow people a bit more time to come up with something. So the new dates & details are as follows:

Winter Theme Picture Challenge 2011
Stories based on either of the following pictures:

or

Stories must have a minimum of 1,000 words but there is no maximum word count.

Closing date for submissions: 8th Feb 2011 (midnight GMT/UTC)
Voting: 9th Feb 2011 to 24th Feb 2011 (midnight GMT/UTC)

Makes no difference to me, as I sent mine in weeks ago. Looking forward to reading another batch of good stories (and apparently will get to look forward for an extra month).

Or just one of them.

Or the other.

Or a story about how the eagle (and the flagpole!) appeared between the two pictures.

Or write a story about the ball dropping in Times Square on New Year's Eve, and have it disqualified for not sticking to the theme.

There are plenty of choices.

I'm thinking of going with that last one.

There - was that helpful? (if not, then get an answer from the staff rather than a smartassed author)

Geesh - how many spankos per square inch do you guys have over there, and LITERARY ones, no less? We do have a few here in New Jersey, but none that can string more than two words together (other than me, of course, and then only every other Thursday).

How could anyone write a story without a Bald Eagle? The quills make brilliant pens and the droppings are invaluable for thickening the ink.

For those yet to put pen to paper (or finger to keyboard) in regards to the photo challenge we will shortly be providing a third photo featuring a pigeon.
