I haven't been able to find any stories with a pregnant person as the spankee, which could very well be due to my poor search skills. But the possible lack of them is surprising to me! Because being pregnant for the first time, I've come to realize there are many ways in which this condition could be used effectively to manufacture one of these stories. For instance...
-pregnant women will experience a dramatic increase in hormones, which allows for uncharacteristically bad attitudes. We're also quick to cry :'(
-there are many things a pregnant woman simply should not do for the baby's health. This goes beyond the well known no smoking or drinking alcohol. For instance: having more than 250 mL of caffeine a day (a small coffee cup), eating fresh vegetables or deli meats when it is not certain it was prepared in a safe way, no raw fish, lying on the back after a certain point in the pregnancy, no very hot baths. All things a pregnant person can easily be tempted to do, thinking, "oh, it'll be fine just this one time...."
-there is quite a generational divide between how previous generations of parents handled pregnancy vs. how current parents are going about it. Lots of things that were okay even ten, fifteen years ago are considered unsafe now (because science has shown us the dangers and we know better), leading to older parents thinking these younger ones are just being uptight or acting like they know better than those who raised them. Examples of this are safe sleep methods, refusal to use generations of hand-me-downs that do not meet modern safety standards, etc.
-in addition to the last point, there is a stronger belief in boundaries and personal autonomy held by current day pregnant women that is often pushed against by older folk. Things like strangers/acquaintances touching the belly without permission, making comments about her body, chiding her on things she has/hasn't done ("you shouldn't exercise so much!" "You should be eating these green vegetables!" "You know you can't drink coffee!" etc.) are things that may illicit a strong and swift reaction from a hormonal pregnant person.
And two fun supplemental facts, as well:
-A pregnant woman will have double the amount of blood in her body by the end of a full term pregnancy (leading to increased flushing of the face/skin)
-it is safe to have sex while pregnant
So I think my point here is two-fold! If anyone knows of any stories that engage with the realities of being pregnant in the context of this thing we do, I would love to know of them! And secondly, if I have somehow subtly proposed some ideas for any authors that may be reading, well....wouldn't that be a terrible thing...! |
