Reading stories on a iPad

I'm so sorry if this has been covered before but I'm struggle to read stories on my iPad. Unfortunately there is no scroll bar so I cannot get past the first paragraph or so of any story. I would be very grateful for any helpful advice. Many thanks.

I read on my iPad and often can't scroll down till I adjust the font size. Then the scrolling works.

I sometimes have to pinch/ squeeze the page to make the words smaller, this always works for me

If using Safari on an iPad, you need to use the mobile version of the browser, not the desktop version. You can select by tapping aA in the title bar or permanently in Safari-Settings.
Stories wil now show in a long frame.

Firefox works better than Safari, but you must change the size of the text. ( the different sized a) I don't know why. I suspect a bug in the latest form of java.
