I feel a bit weird plugging my own stories, but most of mine do.

There's nothing wrong with that (although I myself gave it up years ago).

Ouch, burn! I'll just go stand with my nose against the wall over here...

That's a good place for you to wait for Miss Thrashbottom to come and "discuss" your *faux pas* with you, although you definitely should...ummmm..."rearrange your clothing from waist to knees," as she tends to express it somewhat subtly...so that you'll be "prepared for an intensive discussion" in her words.

Ahhhh, that familiar sharp swishing sound, I believe she's on her way...

Haha I don't mind you plugging your own stories. I'm thinking about writing some. Any tips?

Sure, kid, drop by my office and we'll discuss it. ;)

But seriously, that would be a great question to throw out to everyone; you should post it as a new heading, and get lots of answers from lots of different authors on here. In this thread, the question will get lost. Also, can you be more specific, narrow it down a bit? ('Any tips' is too broad.) I'm not saying I would definitely know the answer, but someone on here would.

A bit of context here:

njrick (aka world famous author Rick Marlowe, author of such gems as "An Unappreciative Reader Learns her Lesson" **) was notorious, some years ago, for plugging his own stories, albeit always most charmingly and entertainingly.

I forget why (there's a thread about this somewhere deep in the archives) but one day he announced to a stunned World Readership that he was forever renouncing this practice - a vow he has honoured, more or less, to this day.

Self-plugging is a normal, safe and natural part of growing up here in the Library, and nothing to be ashamed of. Practised in moderation, it has no harmful effects on health.

(** Did you see what I did there?)

Good lord, TEM, I can't stop laughing. I was going to quote something in your post and try to respond with equal dry wit, but I realized I would have to quote your entire post, and anyway I can't beat a Brit at dry wit. (I'm a poet and I don't know it!)

I surrender.
