Please remember that we are not all long term members who have been exposed to numerous discussions on this subject before. I am still a relatively new member and author, less than a year, and have started 2 forum posts myself, so apologies to you who are "tired" of the debate!.
I simply wanted to understand the reasons, which are many fold, and I now have more understanding about the problem. There are some valid reasons, some insecurities, some apathy and some rather sad excuses. You choose what you read, if you don't want to read a certain genre, don't read until they are validated, you get a synopsis then! You can be specific if you use "search"!
We are sometimes surprised, pleasantly or otherwise, at the direction a chosen story goes, we may not always like it, but there is a wealth of fantastic stories here so we can surely get over a few that don't push our particular button. Some people have mentioned that they don't read much now, don't have time, but we are not asking about the number of stories read, we are asking why so many are read but not commented on!
I love to read the comments on stories I have read, it increases my enjoyment knowing what others think. The same goes for comments I receive on my stories, they make me think about the implications and impressions I have made, they are intended to be constructive, sometimes may be critical, but they should make us grow. It only takes a moment to make a comment, you don't have to read the others, just show your appreciation of the effort the author has made and be grateful this site is available to us!
