Greetings LSF!

For the past few months or so, I've been in a writing slump. For some reason it's been difficult to create anything I feel happy with and would consider posting. I've been working on ways to break out of this, and one thing that helps is writing about characters from past stories. It's easier to start because I've already established something to work with and can respond to possible ideas it in a sort of "What would he/she do?" way.

Even outside of writer's block I enjoy writing about certain characters, enough that I sometimes write stories about them that don't contain corporal punishment. While the spanking part of a story is most extraordinary, I also love exploring the dynamics between characters in scenarios outside of it. It can also be beneficial when writing new spanking stories to have a better grasp of how a character acts in other contexts.

So, does anyone else write about characters multiple times? Do you have a favorite to write? And has anyone else written about them outside of spanking fiction?

I have two series (The Spank Shop and Phi Gamma Beta), now by necessity they tend to feature some of the same characters. The format of the Spank Shop stories in particular allowed me to build up a cast of characters and switch them in and out as I feel necessary for the story. I understand going back to the same characters and reusing them, it can be quite enjoyable as you get to know them quite well and be comfortable in their skin.
I also do it outside of spanking fiction.

I too write about past characters at times. Sometimes I write a story about past characters and then with a bit of work I can take the basic story and change the people just enough to make them their own person. Works sometimes to get out of a slump, at least for me. I like my past characters, most of them have a better personality then I do...LOL

I write about past characters as well. Mine are mostly what the LSF coined as Ordered Series. The stories are different, but the main character remains the same. My Janine stories are like that. Sometimes I just sit down and start writing a paragraph. By the time I'm done with that particular one, I'm on my way to a new story altogether. Maybe it's just me who does that, but it works for me.

I've occasionally writen a sequel to a story, but I've yet to return to a story after some length of time has passed and re-use those characters. I'm often asked for more about someone's favourite character or setting, but I would find it hard to come up with a new plot based on old characters - I usually come up with a plot idea first, and then create characters to fit. Perhaps I will one day...

Nope. Never. (but that's just me being me!) Each new story gets its very own own characters - no sharing!

I have only done it once (in the "Note from School" series/serial), and even that is borderline case as I didn't write that many other stories in-between, and the series can be read as just one long story (although it wasn't planned that way). I usually resist the temptation of writing sequels, but I have considered writing interlinked stories from the same neighborhood, seeing the same episodes from different perspectives.

I have only written one non-spanking story yet (I thought it was about spanking, but Flopsy deemed otherwise!), but I have often felt tempted when the characters and their interaction seem to take me in other directions.

As a writer of mainly F/m stories the boys being spanked are always me.
It therefore depends on my own mood when it comes to inspiration.
Occasionally, and it's quite rare now, I get really into the need for a spanking and suddenly get the desire and ideas for a situation and/or scenario.
Unfortunately, unless the whole story manifests itself as a whole, I soon lose interest and stop typing.
I must have more than two dozen half written tales that I've given up on.
Maybe, when I finally retire, I'll get round to finishing them.

I haven't yet written a serial, but I'm a big fan of the library's ordered and unordered series. They are the perfect vehicle if you want to re-use characters and settings but the stories can be read independently.

I enjoy writing the characters again, and usually I will allow them to appear as cameos in other stories. For example, once a story required a solicitor, and I'd used a man called Ned Gowan in an earlier story, so he appears in the new story as well.

Generally I view this as creating a world in which the stories are just snapshots, looking at it from a different viewpoint.
