It depends on the story, but I'll always go for F/F over everything else. I don't know why, but that particular pairing just pushes my buttons for some reason. Then it's F/M and M/F. I like something that can sound realistic, but at the same time you know it couldn't possibly be real.

You already know what I like, but since this thread is here...

I like F/M, F/F, and M/F, generally in that order, with the spanker being older than the spankee and knows how to toy with him/her psychologically. I like lots of sexual tension, which may or may not get a payoff over the course of the story. Its also a plus if the spankee is a newbie, or otherwise innocent in some capacity.

I'm also a big fan of physical descriptions of the characters; they should both be attractive, and the prose should relate this in detail.

I agree with you so much SNM excepting that my order of preference is M/F, F/M then F/F

Thanks everyone for your input. It will most definitely get my mind boggling for the next story!

Jools, it won't surprise you that my favourite is M/F, though F/F goes well with me too. Humour certainly, and if possible a combination of realism and fantasy - flipping as credibly as possible from the realistic to the fantastical and back. It can be a bit like some science fiction - if this weird thing happened, how would the people next door behave?

Role reversal and power lost, the spanking demonstrating the loss of power, appeal to me. Again, I suspect you knew that.

I'm not particularly interested in the spanking of kids, or of people at or beyond middle age. Some element of different cultures or backgrounds (ethnic, class, whatever) appeals to me and so do characters that develop and dialogue that's credible (in the incredible circumstances).

Since I try to write what appeals to me the most, you can see that I need to have loving couples, 99.99% M/F. They're not just M/F, but ones with an emotional attachment, and sex is usually involved, though graphic is not necessary, because TTWD is sexual for me. It's part of a relationship that enhances it for both parties, so that doesn't include children, teachers, grandmother's, some bosses, strangers, etc. Sometimes parents are included, though more as a prelude.

These being my reason's for writing, when reading I always look for M/F first. then F/M. F/F after.

I'm sorry for that. Most of my characters are older. I think we should all be able to hold onto "hope".

Lately, I prefer to write of a pair where neither dominates and there is a give and take, but I like writing stories where there is something interesting going on in the background to give me a reference point, i.e, a travel piece with local color, the Ironman marathon, a local festival celebration, a character tracing her roots in slavery. I'm fumbling through a biracial relationship- a new subject, where one of the parents objects and meddles. But, I do enjoy your quirky characters and unlikely humorous situations, Jools. Then, I also have this quirky pair who play in the woods...I'm planning to send them to the Everglades, this year.

Hmm... I too like the idea of middle aged women, and even men, getting spanked, especially in romantic situations.

Thanks IC I enjoy chuckle moments in stories especially if reinforced by a good plot(I wish I wasn't so strapped for ideas at the moment)

I shall look forward to it. The Everglades sounds like a good place for getting into lots of trouble!

You could just finish your story in the story you wrote with opb. Sounded interesting.

But it was finished! At least I thought it was.

I would concur with most of what CS said, but find the actual spanking to be of less interest than the situation which builds up to it. Many otherwise good stories on this site are less good, in my opinion, precisely because they have a spanking in them. Often a plot runs towards this outcome when in fact the rest of the story is perfectly good enough in its own right, leaving the spanking seeming forced. The story mentioned by Mati (Collaboration) is a good example of this. Without the story the spanking in the final scene the characters could have had much more time to develop and have other interesting things happen to them. Of course then it wouldn't have been admissible here, and as we were setting out to write a spanking story it had to be like that.

I do like school settings, mainly because I enjoy the closed society aspect of them and the power interchanges - there again I like vanilla boarding school stories too (OK, I never went to one so I'm idealizing). There again I don't like child spankees in domestic situations.

Don't like to read a sex scene, usually because it's either unrealistically good and I get jealous, or it's unrealistically aggressive and I either feel queasy and soiled or ashamed about reading it.

DD does nothing for me at all, except make me want to write parodies of it.

One of the reasons I turned to writing was that no one wrote what I wanted. And what I wanted was novel length works that had a compelling story line, interesting characters, and oh by the way, spanking occurred within the story due to the times, the culture, the situation or the personalities of the characters. I had looked for this in the romance genre to no avail. Sometimes a spanking showed up in a western. But what I wanted was a novel that was not porn (although I'd read plenty of Paul Little and PN Dedeaux etc) but had generous dollops of CP/spanking scenes. The trick is finding the proper balance between the story and the desire to see numerous spanking scenes. I'm probably guilty of including too many of those, but I try to not make them seem contrived or forced. Sometimes I read romances in which there are not enough to my liking, so there you have the conundrum. So anybody who can point me to a novel that has all this, let me know.

I guess I'm rare here in that I enjoy M/M as well as M/F, F/F and F/M. I write stories in all four scenarios, though rarely share the M/M here as it is not well received in general. I try to be good and avoid the non-adult spankee stuff. Although some of it is irresistible, blimp's stuff for example...
