'Pure porn'? Hardly. I suspect Sara's vanilla book-club friends can't have read much porn. Upmarket Mills&Boon with a light dusting of S&M would be closer to the mark.

I downloaded the 1st 50 shades of Grey to my Kindle and currently it's in a queue of more than 50 books. After reading this thread and a similar one at Bottom Lines, I decided to leave it in its place for a while...

I have enjoyed it. I'm not a writer. I don't pick things apart. I am educated and intelligent and reasonably well read. For entertainment value I liked it. It is doubtful that it will win any literary awards other than for high sales, but it is an enjoyable book to read in the car or at the beach. I don't see it as a negative comment on TTWD. Yes, Christian Grey is a dom and he has emotional issues stemming from his childhood. That is his character. Ana is a little unbelievable as a 22 year old virgin, but that is the story. It is fun.

I am so glad you reviewed this Rollin, I keep seeing references to it everywhere and was ready to put it on reserve at the Library- like they would ever order it! ha.

It's actually kind of fun if you approach it the right way. As you read certain parts though you'll be rolling your eyes. But watch out for Christian when you do that. He has a way of dealing with naughty girls who roll their eyes.
All kidding aside, I'm the kind of perverse individual who actually enjoys over the top bad art. For example I'm a fan of Mystery Science Theater. So that's where I'm coming from when I say "50 Shades" is fun.

I once knew a girl who was a virgin until she was 23 years old and she got pregnant from that first encounter. Now that's a bummer.
