How to view The Spanking Library on your iPad or iPhone

Further to my post of 9 Feb., I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and have found that vis-a-vis the LSF there are a number of problems using the embedded Android browser, fewer with the Android version of Firefox, while Opera mini for Android is the best. While the Wellred Weekly can be read with all, NO story can, a message appearing "The browser on your phone is not supported by the story viewer."

Since stories are written to be read, it is a great pity that there is a technical limitation. I think that Februs does a great job and frankly, considering the volume of stories being submitted, and if he were inclined to improve matters and had the appropriate mobiles, it seems to be that he is more than occupied already and would not be able to spend the time. Dare I suggest that there be a moratorium on the submission of new stories - it would also give some of us a chance to catch up a bit - for whatever period thought necessary. This would allow Februs to direct his attention to increasing the availability of stories. Alternatively, perhaps he could co-opt one or more volunteers who possess both the necessary skills and mobile devices. Unfortunately, I lack the former.

I assume that since Android is 'open source' it makes it easier to solve whatever issues there are.

I have no doubt that many would be pleased if stories were made more available and I hope that an extension to Android devices (my interest !) can be achieved.

My respectful opinion is that It would be nice if Februs could figure out how to do less, not more. This opinion springs from 2 things which I suspect, but can't prove: 1) Technically speaking, the LSF couldn't survive long without Februs's talents and, 2) Februs is mortal. (The second assumption is the most doubtful of the two)

Until mobile browsers improve (I think they will) compile a list of bookmarks to spanking author's sites for use on your mobile. Several of us post our stories on easily available archives and blogs. Check author pages to find many of them, including mine.

And my answer is that suggestion is a definite....no...not...never.

Februs has given a detailed response. As he already gives up most of his time for the benefit of LSF users he has no plans to spend even more time tinkering about with Tablets & I Phones. No two Tablets are alike. The same goes for the Smartphones. It would be a nightmare to write yet more complex code to accommodate the quirks of those browsers. There's only one thing for it - go and nag the manufacturers of your Samsung Galaxy into providing a decent browser that you can use to access the LSF

I had intended to make a detailed comment to the first post of today when I first saw it, but got sidetracked. Since all the important things have all been said, I'll add my two cents (U.S., of course) -

1) I don't have or use an iThis or an iThat, or anything android, and so have no interest in asking for any programming to allow their use. I can't explain the technical reasons why this would be difficult (or impossible), but Februs has handled that quite capably. And there seem to be a selection of browsers that make access possible - even if none of them are helpful if you're trying to to use an iWhatever.
2) In no way would I ever want any hiatus on the submission or posting of stories. Although, along with others, I lament the degree to which some readers focus on new content rather than the gems previously loaded here, the continual addition of new material is one of the things that helps keep the site fresh and dynamic. As an author, when I finish a story, I like that I can rush it to 'publication' in order to share it, and get feedback. If there were to be a mopratorium (with or without the goal of giving Februs time to do other tasks besides loading stories), all this would do is push today's work to tomorrow, not lessen the amount of work in the long run.
3) The Library is wonderful as it is. If that means that access is best done through a limited number of types of browsers (limited only because of the technical gobbletygook that Februs has explained), then so be it. We do keep getting enhancements that make the site even better. I would prefer that Februs focus on those that can be done (relatively) easily within the existing technical framework

There are way too many moving parts here already without trying to accommodate the quirks of this or that browser. The last thing any of us want is for Februs to end up in a padded cell off his meds. I can bring up the site on my Fire but I can't read stories or chat or do much else but that's ok, because I can fire up my laptop and do all that later.

I have been successful with Puffin as well, both on my Android tablet and my iPhone. Unfortunately, using the site is difficult on either device, due to the screen size and the lack of a scrollwheel on the touchscreen. I almost never visit TTWD-related sites on a PC, so I am so happy to have found Puffin, despite the shortcomings. Thanks, all, for pointing it out.

For those who might be interested, I've gathered my own (admittedly very small) ouvre of spanking literature together into formats which should be easily usable on most ereader devices (.epub, which most ereaders except kindle seem to deal with, and .mobi, which kindle is supposed to be able to read).

(Really, I did it for the fun of it. Turns out it is not too hard to create a .epub out of existing files.)
