Have added an extra button to the left of where the link to the previous part number is displayed when viewing serials that will allow you to go direct to the first part of the serial. Have noticed one or two people scrolling backwards through serials simply to get to the first part so hopefully this will provide a much better alternative.

In case the above is slightly unclear, the top (and bottom) of a serial when viewed should look something like:

[link to first part] [link to previous part] Title of serial - Part X [link to next part]

Thanks! I have ran into exactly that issue a few times. We really appreciate your wizardry.

Februs,

That is an excellent idea but I have another suggestion. I have not had a problem with serials as I can scoll backwards or forwards as necessary but what I do find to be a problem is with stories that are not listed as serials but have seperate parts such as part 1, part 2, part 3, etc.

Since I can't scroll back or forward a new search has to be started to find the other parts. Is there a way for you to link stories that are in seperate parts together so that it allows the scrolling function to work. Stories that are in parts are, in fact, serials even if the author didn't intend that when the first story was written.

Yes, I know. Everytime you make an improvement somebody wants something else. Sorry about that.

This sounds like a policy question rather than a technical issue. As an author, I have been wondering the same thing since one of my 2-part stories is about to sprout 3 more parts over the next few weeks.

We cause all sorts of problems for the long-suffering staff don't we?

In theory there shouldn't really be any stories that have 3 or more parts as the classification of serial on here as it stands is anything that has 3 or more consecutive parts.

As far as the library is concerned a 'story' can only have a maximum of 2 parts, if further parts are subsequently written and loaded all the parts get reclassified as 'serial'.

I'll have a think about it, something may be possible.

update: it should now be possible to link from Part 1 to Part 2 and vice versa withing the viewer for documents classified as 'story'. I've not tested it thoroughly so if anyone has any problems with it perhaps they could let me know.
