Thank you for the welcome. I was astonished at the number of comments. The story seemed to be rather controversial. A very brief response--Of course the narrator does not deserve to be punished. Perhaps she would benefit from fewer distractions.

Welcome aboard, always great to greet new authors on site. Controversy can be fun, as long as the writer does not get nervous over what could be perceived as negative comments on any story. Our motto of reading lots, writing lots and commenting more applies to all of us and if we all follow it this site will be alive and well for decades to come.

It seemed to me the comments were mostly positive. I wouldn't worry at all if a story is controversial. As for the numbers, some readers make a point of reading something by a new author; and some will read a short story but postpone reading a long one.
