When sending popups back and forth it's easy to observe the flow of dialogue with whoever you are corresponding with, especially if you select their name from the drop-down list in the message viewer. However, it may not be so clear when authors are responding to comments they have received as the recipient won't have their original comment within their messages. I have therefore added the facility to quote either all or part of the comment authors are responding to. Having clicked on the user name of the commenter, which opens up the popup box, the word 'Quote' should appear at the bottom right of the comment. It should then be possible to highlight text from within the comment and click 'Quote' and the quoted text should then appear in the popup input box in much the same way it does when quoting on the forum.

I've only tested it in standards compliant browsers so will have to rely on someone letting me know if it's not working as anticipated in the various versions of Internet Explorer.

Brilliant, I was thinking earlier how useful something like that would be.

I haven't tried it yet, but it is something I have wished for since I began responding to readers' comments via pop-ups. I had previously been typing part of the reader's comment into my popup response. This new feature will make it much easier. Thanks, Februs, for another great feature.

Yes, that sounds like a nice feature that will save me a bit of typing when replying to comments.

Also, perhaps now I will get fewer author replies to my own comments that contain absolutely no context. Sometimes they come weeks after I comment, and arrive without even a mention of the story's title. Since I may have made over 100 other comments over the intervening period, they often leave me totally baffled!

Thanks!

I have just tested this brilliant facility just note the story title doesn't appear - unless i've done something wrong.

This new feature is excellent. However here is another tip that works on almost all text programs so that you don't have to retype things that you want to quote. I'm surprised that not everybody knows about it.

Simply highlight the text that you want to copy and them press Ctrl-C. That copies the highlighted text into the computer's memory. Then go to wherever you want that text, even an entirely different program, and press Ctrl-V and voila! the text is there.

That memory is only temporary. If you shut down your computer or copy new text using Ctrl-C the previous text is eliminated.

It wasn't meant to copy the title just whatever part of the comment you had highlighted but I've added it now anyway, if it's not wanted it can always be deleted prior to sending the popup.

True, but Februs's wizardry formats it for you as well.

That would actually be very useful if it inserted the story title automatically.

Februs' new wizardry works best in the library but I mentioned the generic copying method as a tip as it works in other programs as well and not just in the library. I used it previously in the library before Februs came up with his latest improvement.
