We'd like to kick off a 'Story of the Day' - here's how it will work with your cooperation.

Anyone (authors and non authors alike) can nominate their Story of the Day. Pick a title you have particularly enjoyed reading (but not anything written by yourself), tell us what it is and who it's by, and write a mini review about it - just a paragraph saying why you enjoyed it. Send your review to us by pasting it in via the Contact Us button. What we will do then is publish it on our blog and also here on the LSF forum.

The idea behind this is not only to encourage more interaction on the forum, but to help some of the golden oldie stories and other hidden gems get an airing. Many people only ever go to the Recently Loaded list, so they miss out on all the other goodies in the archive.

If there are enough nominations, we'll probably do one every day; otherwise it will be less frequently. It could be fun and a great opportunity to raise awareness of your favourite stories.

You folks are always thinking outside the circle, Flopsy. Great idea for the forum. It just might generate more participation.

This is indeed yet another example of how our Administrators are so adept at 'blue-sky' thinking outside the box, pushing the envelope and putting their stamp on things.

It's a great idea for giving an airing to the dustiest volumes from some of those shelves right at the back, past the empty-crisp-packet mountain, where the oldest of the empty sherry barrels are stored - but mind you don't slip on those knee-deep crushed Red Bull cans on your way.

If anyone had noticed, I have been going way back, to look at old stories. I don't think that these stories should be forgotten. It isn't fair to the author, for these stories to end up in limbo.

Sebastian:

Yes, I started writing way way way back in Jan 2011, I was young then, now not so much...

Anyway..to stick on topic, I have found a lot of great older stories on Lucky Dip and as a suggestion to anyone who has not used this feature, it is a great way to dig into the past.

I've been engaged on a solitary quest to comment on the most neglected stories here , working from the ones with the most views and zero comments - I'm down to about 240 views at the moment, and I have to say that only the minority of these stories deserved their treatment.

There have been a couple of gems, but by and large I have been out of my cliche-zone.

It sounds like a very good idea - and a way to lessen the tyrrany of the "Latest" list.

I have started to use the "Lucky Dip" button, ("what took you so long? " I can hear Flopsy saying). It is a great way of locating old stories (including my own) that you might otherwise have missed. Hope to review Story of the Day in the near future.

I hear ya, Sebastian. I, too, have been doing the lucky dip a lot of the time. I enjoy quite a bit of those stories.
