When writing dialogue for a character who might be old world, don't use a mix of contractions and regular words.

I would say that there can be an exception to that rule. When speaking sometimes people will use contractions normally but will switch to using no contractions when they want to be emphatic.

"I won't do it."

"I will not do it."

Also I have heard that when having problems with colons an enema can be quite helpful.

I said that because I once had to write a story about a vampire. He was very old and from the old country. I was told by the publisher that it was too 'up to date' with his speaking in contractions. Well, hell, even Shakespeare used them. I just meant, don't switch around too much. We both know you can't please everyone. Like I said at the end of my message. When all else fails, follow directions. If I'd listened I wouldn't have got my butt chewed. LOL

Shrugs....

I just wanted to be part of the solution

Because you know what they say (in the chemistry lab anyhow) - If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

That's no fun!
