As most of you know we are having problems with our original http://www.spankinglibrary.co.cc/ domain and as things stand it looks likely that it may be some time before we can fix things, if at all. Fortunately, we registered an alternative domain for the site a while back, http://www.spankinglibrary.tk/ and we are now recommending that members of the site use this instead.

The problem we have is communicating that to the membership. One way of doing this would be if I were to write a script to email everyone but emails which are generated in this way could well end up getting mis-directed into spam folders so for now at least I've not attempted it.

Another way would be to send messages in batches to site members using our gmail account, We made a start on this today and hopefully some of you will have already received our message recommending the new URL but unfortunately gmail objects when a large number of sent emails get returned because they either don't exist or there is some other problem with them. In the first few batches we sent out we got a lot of bounced emails such that gmail wouldn't allow us to send any more. I am hoping that will be cleared again in 24 hours but it means that it's going to take a long time to email all the members this way. In the meantime we've left messages on site for all those members whose registered email addresses are invalid asking them for a valid address to try and avoid this happening in the future.

Anyway, another good way of getting the message across is if those with a blog or those who have input to a blog or those who are on friendly terms with a blogger could perhaps put a message on their blog explaining the situation and recommending the use of the .tk site URL. This was Rollin's suggestion and an excellent idea so I'm just giving it visibility in its own thread.

rollin:
All of us who have blogs should immediately create a blog entry that publicizes this site with the new URL. This will help drive traffic back, especially those who are "lost" and can't find us. I just posted such a notice on my blog and it gets a fair amount of traffic.
