Annie and her husband Dan are renovating his parents' house when, secreted behind some old wood paneling in the parlor, Annie discovers six diaries, the first dating back to 1870. As she reads about Amelia and her husband, also called Dan, she falls asleep and enters the world of Amelia. As time passes, Annie continues reading the diaries and learns about the people who lived in the house through the generations, and each time she reads she continues to dream, establishing a bond with those who have gone before her. Annie learns they all have something in common - domestic discipline. This encourages her own secret desire to be spanked, and she does some research of her own on the internet - but the websites she has visited are discovered by her husband.
