Twenty-four year old Rick Travis has been married to Layne for five months. The couple live with Layne's parents, the Henderson's. Rick's mother-in-law, Gail Henderson, is a shrewd woman who works as an attorney. She is aware that Rick has already resumed his bad habits of drinking and gambling. He makes bets on anything and has lost money. Gail is sick of bailing him out of trouble. She gives him one last warning and then tells him that as he behaves like a child she is going to treat him like one. She carries through on her threat and sends him to her study where he goes over her knee for a bare bottomed paddling.
