Miss Janey takes up a new position at the DeMarcco mansion, and very quickly learns why the remaining staff strive for perfection in their duties. Her new Mistress is formidable and chastises Janey for unacceptable work. Janey works like a slave in the harsh regime imposed by Mistress DeMarcco. At dinner, Janey is accused of giving one of the guests a cracked cup, and is ordered to fetch the strap. The Mistress gives Janey a furious lashing, and although it is horribly painful, Janey can't help but feel sexually aroused by it. Mistress DeMarcco makes Janey her personal chambermaid. Janey hates the Mistress and her continual punishments, humiliation and scorn, and is aware that her Mistress is excited by whipping her.
Whilst cleaning Mistress DeMarcco's chambers, Janey finds a miniature Lindsey vase which evokes memories of her childhood. She is discovered handling the vase by an angry Mistress DeMarcco, and is subsequently punished harder and more frequently. One thrashing is witnessed by the Master, who ponders why his wife hates Janey so much. It seems Mistress DeMarcco has a mysterious secret in her past, and Janey is instrumental in bringing it to the attention of Mr DeMarcco - a man who is astute enough to recognise the similarities between his wife and Janey, and a man who is keen to see justice done...
