Elizabeth's world has crumbled around her. She has no job, no money, and no husband. Wandering aimlessly in the rain she is befriended by a kind,intelligent and wealthy man who is to change her life. Mr King offers her employment and the opportunity to make a new start – but there are certain conditions to be met in the form of a weekly appointment, during which time she must be completely obedient and submit to his will. So Elizabeth's journey begins and she learns to recognise her own need for submission. She experiences the apprehension and delight of being restrained during punishment, and the heady pleasure and pain derived from crop, paddle and cane. In spite of the age disparity, Elizabeth and her employer become lovers and Elizabeth subsequently faces and embraces the consequences.
