Redskinluver:
But a barebottom spanking in a newspaper comic strip? Find that a bit hard to believe. Sure it wasnt some spank site work.

I've seen that one - and found it on their website:
http://catalog.fborfw.com/indexkeywords2.php?q=teach&books=&year1=&year2=&Submit=Sear ch
And no, I wouldn't call it a spanking illustration but you can see (mostly from the side) that his bottom is bare.

The punch line is:
"There now! That should teach you not to go hitting people!"
If memory serves that was the only "on screen" spanking, but spanking is talked about (or pain stars shown) at:
http://catalog.fborfw.com/indexkeywords2.php?q=weaker&books=&year1=&year2=&Submit=Sea rch
http://catalog.fborfw.com/indexkeywords2.php?q=spank&books=&year1=&year2=&Submit=Sear ch

http://catalog.fborfw.com/indexdate.php?q=1983-07-17&Submit=Search
http://catalog.fborfw.com/indexkeywords.php?q=spank,%20spanking,%20spanked

Here is a link to other "bareness" in that comic" (which came up as I was trying to find the first one):

Edited it to add:
Partway down the page at:
http://www.fborfw.com/strip_fix/2012/07/
there's the reissue of one of those cartoons. The reissue shows Micheal sitting in a corner without pain stars, then there's a bit of text about the reasoning behind the change and the original ending.
"Here's an example of where I redrew the last panel for republication. If I suggested that spanking was a disciplinary tactic in our home, I got mail. Rarely did things get so out of hand! There were times, however, when a swat happened and was more of a blow to the ego than a sting on the behind. Still, any "violent" image was seriously frowned upon by my readers — who in the crafted and edited world of cartoons, preferred clever commentary to a loss of control."

I don't know if it ever made it into strips, but the Phantom handed out a couple of spankings to deserving young women.

I'd never previously heard of "The Ryatts" comic strip, but as this page of mostly individual panels demonstrates, there were a few references to spanking--including a couple spankings actually shown--within it.

http://thehandprints.com/hpComics06.html

Since this URL is from the "Handprints" website, which features only female spankees, I'm not certain if any boys were spanked as well.

I'd venture it's fairly obvious that 'Mom' was the parental disciplinarian of the family... --C.K.

I checked it out. It really did happen, as amazing as that may seem. How did it ever get past the censors. Guess because comic strips were not subject to the Comics Code Authority like comic books were.
Another more recent comic strip where there was spanking and spanking references was Curtis, the one with an African- American family for those not familiar with it.
A lot of comics spankings I did not discover until an adult, or before the Internet, like the Phantom.
Another area worth exploring might be the underground comics of the 60s, by artists like Robert Crumb and S Clay Wilson. Don't recall seeing any spankings, but they did have lots of sex and lots of teenyboppers and hippie girls running around showing off their well-rounded,plumpish bottoms in min i-skirts and tight short-shorts jean cutoffs.

I think I remember the cover image of Mad Magazine that has been mentioned. I remember the Carrie cartoons in Mayfair, this magazine could be found at certain news stands here in the states even though it is a British mag. I loved Carrie. I think bendover mentions several artists that have very nice work. I actually contacted Ron Wilson to try and get him to do some custom drawings for me. There was another artist who had his own site and he called himself endart. Great drawings but he has since retired and the site is now closed. Handprints is about the best source I know of for free spanking art that currently exists. All the artists bendover mentioned appear there.

Well, given my primarily F/M spankophile orientation, I probably enjoy the websites/blogs of Underling, Banjo and Redrump the most for original spanking artwork, but then there's also Rogue's "BoyzBeingBoyz" site that's a male-spankee-oriented counterpart to the "Handprints" one, although it's organized somewhat differently.

If you're still interested in custom drawings, and of course are willing to pay for them, you could try this URL to find artists:

Thank you Crimson. I know this can be quite expensive and I had some custom drawings done by endart once. They turned out nice and as I remember it was about $500.00 for I think 5 or 6 drawings. The cost depended upon how many characters appeared in the drawings. having your own special scenario and wanting spankers and spankees positioned in very certain ways can be costly. Then there is finding an artist who is good at drawing what you want. I know from reading on here that most if not all artists draw what they like best in spanking scenarios and most likely these would reflect their best work.

Andy's Dames is another site that features well drawn cartoons of sexy women in submissive/bondage type scenes, many that involve spankings. The address is : http://andysdames.blogspot.co.uk

You're welcome. It's telling that the cartoon in question was not included with the republished ones and a republished one had spanking turned into sitting in the corner.

That said, that site has every FBofW cartoon on it.

The comic book code was dying if not dead in the early 80s. The explosion of non code comics (mostly underground) in the 60s and the more mature ones in the 70s (I'm thinking the near nudes of Conan here, along with the nudes in Heavy Metal) slowly spelled the end of that.

But I'm sure that the code would have allowed the comic above. It wasn't licentious or titillating, it was just a kid getting a spanking. Now if the subject had been a teenaged girl then it would have crossed the line, but fewer people cared about a kid's butt showing then. Pretty Baby came out in 1978 and the Blue Lagoon in 1980 and that comic was nowhere near what they showed.

Back then you still saw the Coopertone Girl getting her swimsuit pulled down far enough to be cheeky and a kid getting his bottom spanked was just a kid getting his bottom spanked - nothing to get mad over.
