There's no arguing with that! One of the things which makes it so good is the build up, that long drawn out chase around the town which includes her losing some of her clothes (how convenient) and falling in a water trough if I remember rightly, so her drawers would be nice and wet and clingy. Something actually quite erotic, but in the guise of comedy/family entertainment. But then, it was the sixties!

Wayne must have pushed so many women's buttons back in his hey day. Again with Maureen O'Hara in The Quiet Man, during the final fight with Victor McClaglen, a village woman offers him a stick to beat Maureen O'Hara with. He doesn't accept it, but the subtext was certainly there.

Isn't there, though? For me, both spankings in McLintock! (Wayne and O'Hara, Wayne Jr and Stefanie Powers) are spoiled by the crude choice of implement - a metal coal shovel - and not helped by exaggerated clanging noises on the soundtrack that make it sound as though both females' bottoms are made of tin....

I agree with PhilK about the coal shovel, it was stupid, now a nice wooden hairbrush used on both the ladies would have been a lot more probable, (in fact I think Maureen O'Hara was brushing her hair with one in a scene). And it would have been much more fun to watch as well.

Agree with Phil and Hubby. The metallic clang on McClintock is wrong. But the spankings were great OTK and just about the best on film. After all it was 1967. Two of the best looking women at the time, getting a sound spanking. Nite.
