With my former play partner we switched once for my birthday. She spanked me and it was very enjoyable. However, for both of us we really enjoyed me being the spanker and her the spankee. It worked well for us and we both enjoyed the benifits derived for it.

Before and during the first half of my marriage I was a Top, I playfully spanked girls I worked with girl friends, girlfriends and finally the last girlfriend who became my wife. Over the years I gradually started getting the urge to be spanked instead by my wife, she refused point blank, but over a couple of years of perserverence on my part she did consent in the end. And now she enjoys spanking me, I enjoy spanking her and her spanking me. So I supose I'm a switch leaning more to a bottom.

I identify as a switch, but am far more a spankee. I believe that is beneficial to at least try the other role, and a number of spankos have done just that before settling into their particular niche.

I've enjoyed playing spanking games as an opportunity to switch. As someone who is more of a rop, we can even weigh then in my favor while still letting both of us get a fix.

It's been my observation that a number of people who are into spanking specifically are switches. The same cannot be said for BDSM in general. Maybe it's because spanking can be about sensuousness and physical sensation and BDSM is about power exchange.

I guess it depends where you are. In my geographical area in England, the vast majority of people in the general BDSM scene are switches, but the ones who identify as only 'spankos' mostly do not. Or if they do, they only play the other side in private, and not at parties etc.

I have switched more than a few times, based on my preferences and the preferences of the other person. But deep down, I am a switch. I am fortunate in that regard. I have heard people say that it is 'unfair' to be a switch as switches get to play with both Tops and bottoms. The person that said that apparently was not aware that some people are against switches because "switches are unpredictable". If I wanted to be predictable, I would be vanilla.
