So there I was, on the phone to my sister and she was bewailing the fact that her choir is having to sing a song to the tune Londonderry Air, which she said was dull and boring.

Surely it would be more interesting I said, if the song was called London Derriere. Old joke I know, but it got us wondering which other songs have bottoms in their titles.

Apart from the obvious Queen one, I did recall a Eurovision song called Rock Bottom, though bottoms really don't have to be that hard.

Any ideas?

Bell Bottom Blues is an old one by Eric Clapton.
It's not a song, but Paul McCartney has an album titled Kisses on the Bottom.

Started from the Bottom (Drake)
Bottoms Up (Brantley Gilbert)
Rock Bottom (Robert Wyatt)
Apple Bottom Jeans (T-Pain)
Bikini Bottom (SpongeBob Squarepants)

Then there's the Soggy Bottom Boys - as immortalised in the Coen brothers' film Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?

And Irving Berlin's classic number 'Heatwave' includes the lines:

She started a heatwave
By letting her seat wave
And in such a way that
The customers say that
She certainly can can-can

How about the chorus from Smile Please by Stevie Wonder:

Bum, bum bum di ti
Bum, bum bum di ti
Bum, bum bum di ti
Bum, di ti
Bum, bum bum di ti
Bum, bum bum di ti
Bum, bum bum di ti
Bum

There is a version of "My Heart Belongs to Daddy" where the songstress sings at the end "Daddy might spank."

There was an ad in Canada back in the 80s where a Jeans company played Elgar's "Land of Hope and Glory" and replaced all the words with the word "bum" and it featured "bum shots" by the bazillion.

bum bum bumbumbum bumm bummmm
bum bum bumbumbum bummmmm
etc

Unfortunately the elgar original was still under copyright at the time and the ad had to be pulled and redone.

Wasn't there a dance step in the 20's called the Black Bottom?

Probably the most famous such song here in the States is Sir Mixalot's "Baby Got Back," but I personally prefer Spinal Tap's haunting ode to Callipygian delights "Big Bottom."

And I would be remiss if I didn't also mention Gwar (featuring the recently departed Dave Brockie on vocals) and their song "The Master Has A Butt."
