I'm always the most amused by the more prudish variations, such as "wifely duties."
I read a book about how to have a happy marriage, at my grandparents' house, that dated back to before the war. (I leave it to you to decide which war.) It referred extensively to the importance of the "marital embrace," how a wife must never refuse, nor a husband make excessive demands for, a "marital embrace." Given that I was 11, I had NO CLUE why a hug could possibly be that big a deal. |
