What many of the previous commenters have suggested is true. Inspiration really is all around you. The real trick is zeroing in on it. For me, it has a great deal to do with my own personal tastes. Music has inspired me to write some of the stories I've posted here, but not just any music. The kind of music I'm into. The same is true of books, movies and even the occasional fantasy. I've long been interested in history, so some of my stories take place in the past. Things that I find funny often prompt me to infuse a similar kind of humor into my work. Its always easier to write about something you care about than something you don't.

So if you want to write a spanking story that has more than just spanking to it, try this. Make out a list of five or six things that you love. It can be anything - a place, an activity, a person or even a cherished memory. BUT...don't make it easy on yourself. Don't include anything on your list that is directly related to spanking. Then take one of the things from your list (or a combination of them) and try to come up with a story that you can fit spanking into. For example:

Suppose you really like spy thrillers and as a child you dreamed of one day driving a locomotive. You could come up with a story about a secret agent on a train who must find a way of getting some vital information out of an enemy spy before the train reaches its destination. Of if you have a fondness for kangaroos, consider having your story take place among a documentary film crew sent into the Outback to film them.

Exactlly what I mean by inspiration being all around us. The militancy about "sexual harassment" in the workplace these days and the involvement of HR in such things is ripe for exploration for spanking stories.

This. Turn the complications into additional points of interest.

Ignore for the moment that I've hardly written anything these past two years: when I was doing it the problem wasn't finding the ideas but executing them. I have a whole file of ideas which may never see the light of day, many have come from the juxtaposition of two things which might ordinarily not meet. You put them together and see what sparks fly (or what spanks fly).

I find puns can also be a source of inspiration - for example "The Bare" which is solely founded on the old bear/bare pun, and the unfinished story which keeps laughing at me and demanding attention; The Invasion of the Botty Smackers. Ideas no problem, just writing the things is the issue.

Very true, inspiration is not enough. I too have unfinished stories. Some started 3-5 years ago.

Sounds like fun! I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

It does sound interesting. Will there be pods involved?

I'm personally having a very 'dry' spell at the moment with my writing; not because I have a block on writing the words, but I have a block on dreaming up decent characters and situations.

I can relate to how you feel on low creative energy AND, unfortunately for me, I am also blocked on getting the right words to flow too. I am a perfectionist and I think that whatever I attempt at the moment is total cr@* so I tend to abandon it to avoid failure, but that is just how I deal with it. I do agree with what others have said that reading can trigger inspiration. I also find that brainstorming with other writers and or readers is also a valuable tool. When I first started writing here I had a friend who shared our kink with whom I could brainstorm with. Now I no longer have that asset and miss him terribly. It is best not to force the issue or stress about being blocked. If you get any ideas no matter how lame they may seem at the time, jot them down so that they can be developed when inspiration strikes. All the very best to you Immy. I know how frustrating this is.

Not as originally envisioned, but now you come to mention it the Botty Smackers have to have somewhere to keep all their spanking implements so perhaps that idea will be incorporated (suitably credited of course)

Cool. So the pods are more like luggage?

Hi all;

Thank you so much for the really helpful feedback. I set myself a task - open a newspaper at a random page, and create a spanking story inspired by one of the articles.

The result is 'Daleminster', part one of which has just been uploaded on here. It's gone in a completely different direction to what I intended, an in my typical fashion has morphed from a little two-parter into a twenty-part epic. Once I get going my characters just sort of take over and do their own thing!
